Remember that time Hasbro tried to get into the munitions business? Us neither. So imagine our surprise when Tata Motors' unveiled their first ever sports car concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor show. It'll be produced under Tata Motor's new portmanteau banner - TAMO and it claims to pack 187 bhp. For reasons unknown it's called the, er, Racemo - a front-engined, two-seater sports car - with a good deal of crossover design cues thrown in for typical Tata practicality. The car will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron, manufactured by Tata eith a 6-speed AMT transmission with paddle shifters.
The Racemo can apparently hit 0-100 kph in 6 seconds officially making it the fastest car Tata has ever made, apart from any Tata Sumo inter-city taxi from the 90's - which was long-believed to have held the existing land speed record.
The car has been designed in Tata motors' design studio in Turin and as a result it's quite a looker. It's got a highly futuristic skin, with multiple layers of what Tata calls its MOFlex multi0material structure. Admittedly that sounds like a disused MSN web avatar, but it adds a certain levity to the car which is indispensable to sports cars. Say what you will about the Racemo - sportscars are always a welcome direction for car makers to move in and could truly mark the coming of age of Tata as a global player.
