Nicaragua is a country of towering mountains, crashing waves, friendly people and a multitude of areas to explore. The Pacific side of the nation is dotted with volcanoes, surf camps and beach cabins while the Caribbean side offers stretches of white sand, incredible snorkelling and a laid-back atmosphere. Inland, visitors will find colonial architecture, cobbled streets and horse drawn carriages along with an abundance of beautiful hotels and restaurants. Getting here is a breeze as hundreds of flights are available from major airlines and fly directly into the capital city of Managua. Visitors from most countries do not require a visa to visit Nicaragua and are only required to purchase a tourist card. Travelling around the country is generally safe for all travellers, even solo females, but it is important to be aware at all times. There is never a bad time to visit the country, although if you want to miss the rainy season, don’t visit in September and October when the rainfall is at its highest and hurricanes are a threat. Escape to the mountainous cloud forests, climb a smoking volcano, snorkel alongside marine life or explore the popular places to visit in Nicaragua—all is possible in this welcoming and beautiful country.
