Is Goku vs Frieza the GOAT Anime Fight?

Maybe this is just cause I grew up on DBZ and Frieza was the first true super villain of the show, but was Goku vs Frieza the GOAT anime fight? It had everything. The storytelling was superb, especially before the fight. Goku took so f*ckin long to reach Namek and tension was built so f*ckin high. When Goku actually touched down in Namek and wiped out the Ginyu Force that Vegeta, Gohan and Krillan had been having so much trouble with, it was a awesome moment.

The actual fight with Frieza was after Vegeta's death. Vegeta's empassioned speech about how Frieza wiped out their once feared race, and how Goku should forget about his softness and kill Frieza with no hesitation. When the great evil Vegeta started crying and begging Goku, it was just

The fight itself was epic. Back and forth, you really had no idea what was going to happen. The part where they thought they had won and they finally began celebrating and laughing, it was real emotional. Then suddenly Frieza is alive and he kills Krillin by exploding his body. That was crazy.

And then of course one of the most epic parts of anime history when Goku goes batshit crazy and turns into a Super Saiyan, and dominates Frieza. Frieza getting caught with his own destructo disc and getting sliced in half, and then continuing the fight for another 5 episodes was That nikka fought with one arm and no legs for another few hours

Frieza resignation to failure and his desperate final attempt to win by destroying Namek was epic, as Goku obliterated him and raced to get off Namek in time. The fact that they both a exploded planet (and in Friezas case being split into a dozen pieces and floating in space) was amazing.

I think in the future people will acknowledge how great of a fight it was. It was long as hell, but if you really paid attention it was extremely well done. This fight is very underrated. People often say the protagonist is the driving factor behind the success of a tv show, but to be honest without a great antagonist it will never reach its full potential.

Dragonball Z really exploded in popularity during the time when Frieza was the main villain. You could say the Frieza saga MADE Dragonball Z.

In terms of storytelling ang hype... Probably yes. Frieza was also a well done villain.

As far as the fighting itself? No.

In terms of pure combat, the Goku vs Perfect Cell is the best... Followed by Majin Vegeta vs Goku.

But Omega Shenron vs DB had so much potential and it sucked monkey ass. As a matter of fact DBGT ruined the entire work for me.

Cell vs Gohan was perfect. teen Gohan was the greatest character ever, maybe together with Vegeta. he was just so badass and pure of heart.
they way he snapped and destroyed cell and his kids only to have his own father killed and Cell come back stronger then ever.
then in the end won by pure will with Gokus help and Vegeta finally getting over himself.
imo Vegeta should have ended the fight tho and turn into SSJ2 too, after Trunks was hurt by Frieza. he snapped the fck out, fought for someone else for the first time... and made zero demage
Toriyama just hates Vegeta so much, thats the only bad thing about DBZ

I read Toriyama planned on ending it with Goku beating Frieza.

But the sudden surge in popularity resulted in the Android/Cell saga and then the Buu saga. Maybe that's why 5 minutes took like 7 episodes. He was probably brainstorming the next saga.

You know Goku was actually meant to stay dead and Gohan was meant to take over as the main good guy on the show. But Goku was too popular so that was scrapped and Goku was brought back to kill Buu instead, and Gohan was relegated to the second tier of DBZ fighters again with the likes of Krillin and Piccolo.
