Hi,how are you?The converter will need to be cut out off the exhaust pipe and the new one welded in place, unless you buy the converter from mazda you will need to buy a universal oxygen sensor that will fit the after market converter. If you go back with the original equipment from the dealer no alteration to the oxygen sensor is required, the old one will screw directly in place.graphic
Customer
Thanks for the info , but i need more help like how to remove it and replace it in steps such as if I have to remove or unbolt certain parts that obstruct the cat or not , and if I have to purge the cat with argon when welding it since its stainless, I know I might be asking for too much but I want to do everything right the first time to keep costs down, thanks.

Ok,i will upload this for you.

The converter on your vehicle is made into the exhaust manifold and is sold all together,so disregard above after checking the vehicle year again yours can not be cut out and is replaced as a assembly.

Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

Remove the plug hole plate.Remove the battery cover and duct.Remove the under cover.Remove the rear and front tunnel members. If necessary, remove the main silencer as follows:
Disconnect the ABS sensor wiring harness connector. Disengage the brake pipe mount from the bracket and remove the lower shock absorber bolts. Loosen the rear crossmember bolts and lower the crossmember approximately 3 inches (70mm) and remove the main silencer.

Unplug both Oxygen Sensor (O 2 S) connectors. Remove the exhaust manifold bracket, heat shield and clip.Remove the front wheels.Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering gear and linkage side.Support the engine and remove the No. 1 engine mount.Loosen the exhaust manifold bolts.Remove the front stabilizer and stabilizer control link bolts.Loosen the front crossmember bolts and lower the crossmember approximately 4 inches (100mm).Support the flexible pipe with a support wrap or splint as illustrated.

Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket.

To install:

Installation a new exhaust manifold gasket and the manifold . Tighten the manifold retainers in the sequence illustrated to 32-47 ft. lbs. (43-64 Nm).

Hi, Sorry but I work night shift and haven't had a chance to get online, I went to AutoZone to buy a catalyst converter and they told me that it could be the spark plugs if you could tell me what type my car uses so I can buy them and install them before y buy the converter and going with your directions , they say its either the 11709089-447 or the NGK ITR5F-13 6044 , but that it has to be the right ones or I can damage the engine, that would be my last question ,thank you.

Your vehicle uses the NGK plugs.
Customer
If you notice Both plug models are ngk but they are different.
Yes,your vehicle uses the NGK ITR5F-13 6044XXXXX XXXXX41126.112346956
Hi,why the bad service rating?
Customer
Relist: Inaccurate answer.
I went to AutoZone to buy a catalyst converter and they told me that it could be the spark plugs if you could tell me what type my car uses so I can buy them and install them before y buy the converter , they say its either the NGK ITR6F-13 4477 or the NGK ITR5F-13 6044 , they werent sure because the first 04 models used one type and 05 and newer models used the other , they said that it has to be the right ones or I can damage the engine, I checked online and some places it says one model and some say it's the other, I really want to avoid using the wrong ones ,thank you.
I have already given you the answer to your question as to which spark plugs to use for your vehicle,I also gave you the instructions for removing the catalytic converter and then you rated bad service.replacing the spark plugs on your vehicle is not going to cure your issue, the converters are notorious for failing on these vehicles not the spark plugs, please try to understand that there is a reason those guys work at autozone and not at a repair facility, they are not mechanics. Please respond back before rating if you have further questions, thanks.
Customer
I do apreciate Your help but first You gave a wrong answer for the catalyst, You said it was easily accessible and and thati could cut it off and weld a new one, then came back saying to forget about that and that it came as one piece and that I had to buy the whole piece , then about the spark plugs you said it used the itr5's and it turned out that you were also wrong, I happened to find a parts maintenance manual from Mazda online and it says it uses the itr6's and it clearly states that if you use the wrong ones it will damage the engine, I would've given you a good score but those two wrong answers could've cost me a lot of money, which is what I wanted to prevent in the first place Im tired of wrong diagnosis with local ripoff mechanics and that's why I turned to you guys but it turned out to be the same thing, don't take it personal but just look at it from my point of view, Im sure you would feel the same way.
Ok,so use the spark plugs the manual is telling you and good luck to you, replacing the spark plugs will not cure your issue so keep the FREE instructions above for when you need to replace the converter.Thanks.
