Why do they flicker so bad?

The future of street lighting is Induction, not nasty HPS lights or cr@ppy LED lights!
Preheat CFL's should make a comeback!

They use a capacitor as a ballast, it tends to show up power quality issues rather well, as it glows brighter when there are harmonics present. If you run it off an isolating transformer it will cease to flicker.

I had one of these years ago(probably around the time this was posted), although I remember it not lasting long due to the ballast quality. Still, I'd love to find one again
