steelhead26
Hello, I am Joe. A beginner NASCAR model builder from PA. Haven't built a car since around 98' or so when I was a kid. Picked up 5 kits over the summer at a yard sale for around $5 each and am going to use building as my winter hobby this year. I have really enjoyed seeing the pics of the very talented builders on this site along with the knowledgeable posts over the past few days. Today I have dug out my old Testors paint carousel and am about the take the plunge. It seems like much has changed over the decade since I have last built. It is nearly impossible to find Testors paints and read that there is another brand that builders seem to be using and I can't seem to find any newer NASCAR models. Thanks for reading. Ramfins59
Welcome to our plastic playground Joe. If you have any good, well stocked hobby shops near you, that's where you'll probably find Testors paints and other brands. Nascar models don't seem to be as popular as they once were which is most likely why you can't find newer ones.Check out Model Roundup's website for Nascar kits you might want...... www.ModelRoundup.com

slusher
Welcome Joe. You can find Testors paints at Hobby Lobby...
steelhead26
Thank you all for the warm welcome and pointers. I have seen Hobby Lobby during my travels ( I always thought it was fabrics, framing and crafts) I will have to stop next time. Also, checked out the modelroundup site and it is cool, I like how they have NASCAR kits that I don't see everyday. I am going to start a trial build with minimal detail (especially in the paint department) to get used to building again. Looking forward to chatting with you all over the months and hopefully I will have a decent pic or two that I won't be too embarrassed to share. Enjoy your Holidays everybody Thanks AgainJoe

martinfan5
Hello Joe, welcomeGood news, Revell just released two new NASCAR kits, right now, its only the Ford Fusions of Brad K and Joey L, and they are more of snap tite kit curbside, but there will be more full detail kits of the Chevy's coming towards the end of this year it sounds like. The best price on them seems to be from Tower Hobbieshttp://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=002152672&I=LXFKHW&P=Khttp://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&W=002152672&I=LXFKHV&P=KIf you are wanting older kits and decals, Ebay is gonna be your best and cheaper bet, there are plenty to had for low prices. If you are in need of aftermarket goodies/decals and even kits, this is another good placehttp://www.mikesdecals.com/index.php
steelhead26
Thanks martinfan5, I am pumped to hear about the new kits. I'll order one of each for sure. Hope the expand their line to include many drivers or at least a kit for all 3 manufacturers and just sell the decal kits on the side (loved the Darlington throwback cars this fall). I am taking advantage of the great prices on ebay to get used to building (my last builds were when I was about 15 or so, very sloppy). I am currently looking into getting an airbrush kit, hopefully for $75 or less so that I can try and match paint jobs closely. That being said, I don't even know how to use one lol. Also, I am trying to figure out if primer is necessary, the internet seems to have mixed reviews. Thanks again for reading. I have received more help in the 24hrs on this forum than days of unanswered questions on other sites. Joe
Speedfreak
Welcome Joe, glad you're back at modeling, you'll have fun. Just take your time as there will be a learning curve, hang in there and you will find your groove. Have a great Christmas!
steelhead26
Thanks Speedfreak, You enjoy your Christmas as well. Hopefully the learning curve only lasts for the first few builds. I figured I will practice build on a few cheap kits that I picked up this summer for only a few bucks a piece. I see all of the great and amazingly built NASCAR cars that the guys have built in the forums and WOW. Loving this forum already. The level of detail that those guys are putting into their builds is off the charts. I have learned more about our hobby in the short time I have been on this forum than I did in the last thirty years or so of building in isolation. Trust me when I say that this is the best way to improve your skills and remember that practice makes perfect.

steelhead26
Thank you guys for the warm welcome. Starting to get too cold to do much outside, so here we go. Have had these sitting around in the basement for about 14 years or so. Just wanted to ask, do I post questions or updates in the WIP or Nascar thread? Thanks again, excited to get back at it.
