AR1104: Material Culture and Museums

This course introduces students to material culture and museums. It will combine classroom instruction on the Teaching Collection and digital platforms with site visits to the National Museum of Ireland and Galway City Museum.

1. Demonstrate introductory-level knowledge of handling and recording of artefacts
2. Classify archaeological artefacts
3. Arrange archaeological types into typological order
4. Display familiarity with object identification and description
5. Complete an Artefact Sheet
6. Think critically about museology and exhibition-planning
