SG111: Early & Medieval History of the Celts
Semester 1 | Credits: 5
The student is introduced to the earliest evidence for the Celts, in archaeology, language and history, to show the extent and depth of Celtic cultural roots in ancient Europe, extending backwards to about 6000 BCE. Then, the history of the Celtic people and regions in early medieval times, including the coming of Christianity and the interactions with the Vikings, up till about AD 1000.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the prehistory and ancient and medieval history of the Celts.
- Discuss the types of sources available for the study of the history and prehistory of the Celts.
- Describe the relationships and differences between archaeological, linguistic and historical sources.
