This is a great thread. For me the ultimate example of this phenomenon (a guitar being simultaneously breathtaking and painfully ugly) is the Musicmaster:

I mean just look at it, the blank white space just screams 'Hey I am missing something from this part but don't worry'. On the other hand I love them so much I had to get one. :)

Another example is one I found out about recently, and this "ugh, that's ugly - wait, that's gorgeous" process had ran its course quite quickly, the Gibson ES-120T:

The oversized pg, the lone f-hole, and lone single-coil are exactly the things that are repelling at first and define the instrument's all-around beauty later. I might just get one of these at some point, ha!

I used to think any guitar with F holes was hideous. In ways they still don't strike me as attractive unless I uhh think about it I guess. Don't see what's particularly bad about that last one...

Ooh... I love the look of 80s "hair" guitars, the gaudier the better :) This one's even complete with a button that I'm guessing calls room service to fetch you a prostitute:

Nah those guilds are amazing and they should all belong to me! I want a firebird SO FUCKING BADDDD! I guess the trems on those are really cool and fun and they just look beautiful. Love them!

Why does every guitar not have a painted neck?! LOVE a sunburst neck, especially Isley that one.

The singer from Acid Baby Jesus plays one. Great guitar!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Don't forget the Vox Marauder! Unfortunately mine is missing the headstock logo. Fortunately all of the electronics work.

Vox Marauder! Currently number one on my gf's most wanted list. So cool.

Aside from that, and I probably said this a few pages back and make no apologies for saying it again, loads of these guitars aren't ugly or weird in any way shape or form, they just aren't Strats, Teles or Les Pauls.

Guitarists are a conservative, easily shocked bunch it seems!
