ILOILO – A three-storey, 12-classroom school building was recently turned over by theDepartment of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office to the officials of Leonora Salapantan National High School in San Miguel, Iloilo.
Officer in charge District Engineer Mario Soriano said the project involved the construction of one unit, three-storey, 12-classroom school building in the amount of P31.539 million, funded under the District’s Fiscal Year 2018 General Appropriations Act, implemented in convergence with the Department of Education, in support of the K-12 educational program.
“This three-storey building, with the length of 11 meters by 46 meters, has 12 standard-sized classrooms with four classrooms per storey, and can accommodate at least 450 students,” Soriano said.
“The project also involved provision of steel casement at rear window with security grills for front jalousie windows, fire protection system and overhead and cistern tanks,” he added.
According to school principal Dr. Mary Grace Castillo, the said building has definitely added to the efficiency of serving their students and inspired their teachers.
“We barely had classrooms to accommodate the students when the school opened decades ago. Now, we have accommodated approximately 3,400 students and 150 teachers and staff,” Castillo said.
“The rise of the buildings in our school changed the outlook and attitude of our students. We are now able to house the students in a more conducive and safe learning environment and secure them in a clean and safe classroom. As a result, absenteeism and drop-out rates were decreased,” she added.
More school building projects are being constructed by the district in various schools in the 2nd district of Iloilo, with the aim of providing a better venue for the learning to progress as well as effective delivery of quality education./PN
