Speaking at a banquet in honor of the 21st anniversary of Child Bereavement UK, which Princess Diana helped to launch, the Duke of Cambridge honored his late mom.
"What my mother recognized back then–and what I understand now–is that grief is the most painful experience that any child or parent can endure."
Prince William, who has a special connection to the organization added, "Twenty one years ago last month, my mother attended the launch of the Child Bereavement Charity."
"Fifteen years later, I was honored to be invited to become Patron of Child Bereavement UK to continue my mother's commitment to a charity which is very dear to me."
"My mother was determined to help those in need and she would have been immensely proud–as I am–of all that Child Bereavement UK has achieved these last 21 years."
He also applauded the efforts of the charity's volunteers who help families cope with the death of loved ones.
"As a father to two young children, I now appreciate it all the more."
On the lighter topic of his epically squishable tykes, at a previous event at St. John's College at Cambridge University, Prince William told a Professor Dobson, "George is very lively and Charlotte is very lady-like." Dobson added, "He said they were both delightful of course."
