Located on the Root River State Bike Trail, just 4 ½ miles east of Lanesboro, the quaint town of Whalan is the smallest town on the trail.

Visitors can’t help but notice the picturesque view of the beautiful Root River Valley and surrounding limestone bluffs. For bikers riding through town on the trail, Whalan offers a gazebo, playground, basketball court and picnic area for a nice respite before continuing their journey. For those who would like to spend some time in Whalan, don’t let the small size fool you, as Whalan has much to offer visitors.

  • Bike or leisurely stroll the beautiful state trail.
  • Enjoy the river by fishing, tubing, canoeing or kayaking.
  • Play a round of mini golf.
  • Take in some live, outdoor music in the months of June, July and August with Whalan’s Music in the Bluffs summer music series.
  • Enjoy Whalan’s Girls Fast Pitch Tournament the beginning of July.
  • Visit the Whalan Museum and learn about the town’s heritage.
  • Travel back in time by visiting Ernie’s Station, a non-working, restored 1917 gas station.
  • Enjoy a delicious piece of homemade pie or some tasty kettle corn.
  • Browse through our unique shops to find that special gift.
  • Take in the Root River Valley’s Autumn Trail in September.
  • And at the end of your fun-filled day in Whalan, rest at the resort or one of the many rentals in town.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to visit Whalan. Welcome and enjoy!
