If you're a lipstick lover, then you understand the burden of finding the perfect shade. There's an endless selection to choose from on the shelves. Even a quick Internet search can turn into a headache since you never know what will look good on your particular skin tone. Luckily, Reddit user Itselyse decided to get a head start on spring cleaning by putting 97 tubes from her massive makeup collection to the test. "I wanted to do the swatches to help me get rid of a few of my lip products because I have far too many for one person!" she tells SELF.
From barely-there nude glosses to highly pigmented matte stains, she perfectly photographed what each one looks like on her skin. The resulting charts are the perfect guide for women with a similar complexions who are looking to find a new hue. "It took four hours to test out each shade," says Itselyse, who is also a makeup artist. Not too bad for nearly 100 different swatches! To remove each color between swatches, she turned to baby wipes and olive oil.
Itselyse also revealed which colors were her favorite as well as which ones are getting the boot this season. Although there were high-end selections in the mix, she confesses, "most of my favorites are from the drugstore." In particular, she loves Rimmel London lipsticks. "They got it down pat with the formulas and the diversity of the shades," she says. On the luxe side, Nars Audacious Lipsticks are also a long-time favorite, and she'll be rocking MAC's Dangerous (#57) this spring.
