    • Mrs Plant - Verified booking

The Beeches is on a farm and yet separate from the activities of the farm. It is set in its own grounds with a decent size all around garden. The views from the front of the property are simply magnificent and the rear garden (complete with a BBQ) is extremely quiet and private. The accommodation has three beds and two baths a great lounge with a large TV and in a separate room there is a playstation and a table football game. There are some great walks directly from the house and many more in the local area. The hosts were extremely welcoming and we had homemade cakes on arrival . There are plenty of places to visit, the waterfalls are particularly good and if you are feeling energetic then I would recommend the "Elephant Trees" walk where I saw to my delight a flock of Curlew. There are numerous places to eat, however I would wholeheartedly recommend an Italian restaurant in the nearby town of Crook called Perla Nera, their home made bread sticks are excellent and the Black squid ink pasta with king, tiger and baby prawns was probably the best pasta dish that I have every had.

We loved staying at Beeches Cottage, Sarah the owner welcomed us when we arrived, and was on hand but not intrusive if we needed anything. The house was beautiful inside and out, very clean and had everything we needed, with lovely open countryside views at the front of the property. The garden is a fantastic space and very peaceful, all you can hear is the birds singing in the trees, and the occasional call of the sheep and new born lambs which were in the field in front of the house. The property is in a lovely quiet location, but close to the local village if you needed anything. There are some beautiful areas and historic places to visit quite close by. I would definitely recommend Beeches Cottage to anyone. We look forward to booking this property again in the not too distant future. Thank you so much Sarah and family, it was a pleasure to meet you.

    • Alan - Verified booking

The property is very nice and well equipped and under other circumstances I would have loved my stay there but there were a couple of issues.

Firstly the cleanliness of the downstairs rooms which I brought up with the owner. The kitchen really needs a good clean. Secondly, as Skyes and the owner are aware, the electric heaters downstairs were not working despite being connected to the electricity. This was not rectified in the 10 days I stayed there. Instead the owner brought logs so I could light the very small woodburner. Although this helped a little after being lit for a couple of hours in the evening, it did not help in the morning when the house was very cold and it resulted in an uncomfortable stay. An offer of compensation was made although despite leaving the property some days ago, nothing has been received. It´s a pity there is no survey for Sykes themselves as their customer service, once you have booked, is the worst I have ever experienced.

This was a very easy experience.

The photos were accurate. Once booked the host contacted me which was a nice touch. A warm welcome was given by the lovely scones with milk and tea and coffee and eggs being provided. I also enjoyed the lovely posy of fresh flowers. The property was lovely, great log burner and one of the comfiest sofas I've ever sat on! The bedroom was a good size and the bed was also very comfortable. A few steps away from the cottage the lovely small town of Stanhope which had a healthy buzz about it and a few nice wee shops and places to eat and drink. Everything had been thought of when equipping this cottage and I appreciated it a lot. I would recommend to anyone thinking of going to this area and thank you to my host, Mark, good job! :-)
