Hmm... Yep, it's me. And
nothing has changed. Kiz still
doesn't feed me enough...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Does anyone know which railroads used this boxcar? I really don't need any Canadian roads.

Hmm... speaking of
Canada, I'll have some
Canadian bacon for lunch...

As others have said, IF released with low ladders and without roof walk I'd be in for a few.

Cheers,

Kev

I would think a number of American roads had the prototype if MTL is tooling the model.  It shouldn't be difficult to research which roads had it.  In all likelihood, RMJ has done a roster article on the prototype, which would be available on TrainLife.com.  A search through one of the online Model RR magazine index sites should uncover any such article.

The ad states over 800 cars were constructed, beginning in October 1963.  I assume this is in the high-brakewheel configuration.  It also states that PRR and ATSF had near-exact replicas, which implies that PRR and ATSF are two of the roads that MTL will be releasing on the model.

+1.  Yes! With low ladders and w/o roofwalks this could be my first MT purchase in almost 5 years.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

I believe this is the same car as the Great Northern had, shown in the photo linked to below...

The ORIGINAL Norfolk Southern had some, which went into the SOU and presumably NS.

Correction - NS 550-569  to SOU 565075 were from Thrall, not greenville, although they are somewhat similar looking...

Sorry!

CNA reporting mark is used on cars for US service, so this car would in a sense be in US service at least part of the time (only allowed to load in the US, not Canada but can empty in CAN or US... import duties back in the pre-FTA/NAFTA days). This CNA series also started as GTW cars in the 375290 series (BLT-66) and went to CNA in / around 1974-82.

A big +1 for me with respect to the later version of this car (no r/w, short ladders), however I recall seeing one in GTW brown in the late 1990's/early 2000's on a CN freight here in Toronto complete with roofwalk. Can you say double take?

The 1016 coupler box also appears to extend to an acceptable length to simulate the cushioned underframe draft gear.

I really wish MTL would tool a cushioned draft gear box for body mounts already.... this would be a great opportunity to do so.

How about it Joe?

This GBW prototype and the GN prototype above appear to be riding on 36" wheels:

Looks like NKP and EL had them.

Taking a closer look at the GN Prototype, it looks like it's sides are of welded construction and the car possibly built by ACF if the logo is what it appears it is.

I have not seen the Micro Trains Ad.  But from looking at the photos posted, RMC had an article on the 60 foot Greenville boxcar in August 1976, page 48.  The article does not include a roster but from photos, NYC, Nickel Plate, GT, Wabash, Katy, DTI, Clinchfield and Erie Lackawanna had the car.

Great Northern's 60 double plug door boxcars series 139000 to 139049 were made by ACF in 1963 to 1964 with 36 inch wheels and cushion underframes. The GN car looks very much like the cars in the RMC article. --Brian

Me too!   The current proposed one with roofwalk is too early for me.
