The generator is specifically designed for low speed vertical axis wind turbine applications. The low speed operating range from 0 to **0 RPM allows for direct drive to the wind turbine which eliminates the need for a gearbox and the losses associated with it. Additionally, the generator incorporates a coreless design so there is no magnetic cogging or core losses allowing smooth and very low resistance to rotation for starting. The only resistance to start rotations is the rotor/turbine inertia and the bearing friction. The generator can be enclosed, depending on preference.
