Age 13 - 17: Teen 13+ Learn to Skate
Age 18+: Adult Learn to Skate
The Teen and Adult Learn to Skate programs teach fundamental skating skills required for recreational skating, hockey, ringette and figure skating. Beginners and skaters looking to improve their basic skating skills are welcome to join these programs. More advanced adult skaters should join the Adult STARSkate program.
This shared session is open to skaters age 13 and older who are new to skating or working on fundamental skating skills. Skaters will be grouped according to age and ability. This program follows Skate Canada's CanSkate program adapted to meet the needs of older skaters.
Lesson are given in group format and skaters progress at their own pace. Teen skaters who complete the program will advance to the STAR 1 figure skating program. Adult skaters who complete the program will advance to the Adult Figure Skating program.
70 Minute Session
- 10 minute group warm up
- 30 minute group lesson
- 30 minutes of practice time
Private Lessons
Private lessons are available during the 30 minutes of practice time. Private lessons are not included in the program fee. You must arrange private lessons directly with a Club Coach.
Helmet Policy
- CSA approved hockey helmets with chip strap are mandatory for all skaters in Stages 1 - 5.
- CSA approved hockey helmets with chip strap are optional but highly recommended for skaters in Stage 6.
Teen Eligibility
- Must be between the ages of 13 and 17 as of September 7, 2024 for the 2024 Fall/Winter Session
- Must be between the ages of 13 and 17 as of March 17, 2025 for the 2024 Spring Session
Adult Eligibility
- Must be 18 or older as of September 7, 2024 for the 2024 Fall/Winter Session
- Must be 18 or older as of March 17, 2025 for the 2024 Spring Session
