A moisture-laden storm system will bring major rain and snow totals from Washington to California through the early part of the week ahead. Cities like Seattle and Portland could receive their first snow of the season. Parts of California may need to be on watch for avalanches, flooding and mudslides. Some rain may fall in fire-stricken Los Angeles. If you’re traveling across the West, including on Interstates 5, 80 and 90, you’ll need to have a plan to avoid weather delays. Interstate closure is possible.

Temperatures will be on the way up in the week ahead. It will feel like mid-Spring from Arizona to Georgia and even into the Ohio Valley. Dozens of record highs could be set for cities including Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix as cold air gets bottled up across the country’s northern tier and in Canada. You’ll need to dig out the lighter clothes for this forecast.
