Jaws 2 (1978), directed by Jeannot Szwarc and co-written by Carl Gottlieb, is an American thriller film. As a new hotel opens on Amity Island, tragedy strikes when a great white shark kills two scuba divers who were photographing the wreckage of the Orca. Fortunately, their camera captures the attack before it sinks to the ocean floor. In a separate incident, a water skier also falls victim to the predator. Despite her attempts at self-defense using a gas tank and flare gun, the boat explodes, killing her instantly. The discovery of a killer whale carcass on the beach only further confirms Police Chief Martin Brody’s belief that a shark is responsible for these gruesome attacks. Further evidence in the form of floating debris from the destroyed speedboat and burnt remains of its driver strengthens his suspicions.
However, when Brody calls upon Matt Hooper for assistance, he learns that he is currently in Antarctica on a research expedition. With limited options for help, Brody takes matters into his own hands and forbids his 17-year-old son Mike from boating out of concern for his safety. The next day, Brody observes the beach from a tower and sparks chaos by shooting at a group of bluefish, which he believed to be a shark. Despite his doubts, photographic evidence from a diver’s camera confirms the presence of an actual shark. When Brody brings this to the attention of the Amity Town Council, they dismiss his claims and remove him from his position as police chief.
