There is an urgent need for deep water ports in the country which is currently undergoing a speedy development process. It is expected that a new port will facilitate the cargo turnover as well as serve for operating huge cruise vessels in future. The port will be large enough to handle 30,000 ton cargo vessels. In the course of three years the project itself will create over 2,000 jobs.
The Chinese investors are confident that the new port will attract more visitors from China which is now a very promising target market for tourism sector in Cambodia. At the same time it will be of crucial importance for Khmer exports to China which showed a steady 18% increase during the last year. Currently China remains the most important investor in the economy of Cambodia with the bilateral relations of the two countries being high.
