JULIE NEWMAR: ‘I Always Thought That as a Cat, I Could Toy With Any Male Star’

The ZOWIE WEDNESDAYS Finale!

Well, this was fun. Welcome to the finale of ZOWIE WEDNESDAYS — in which we serialized across 13 weeks Mark Voger’s new book Zowie! from publisher TwoMorrowsClick here for a ton more on this feature — and info on the book itself, a brightly colored history of “the TV Superhero Craze in ’60s Pop Culture.” You can also find there links to previous installments. Right on! — Dan

Julie Newmar’s 91st birthday is this week — Friday, to be exact. Bill Morrison celebrated her with a wonderful illustration on Monday, but we’ve also decided to give Ms. Newmar the spotlight in our final ZOWIE WEDNESDAYS!

Because if anybody embodied ZOWIE! in the TV Superhero Craze in ’60s Pop Culture,” it was her.

Dig it.

Zowie! by Mark Voger, is a 192-page, full-color hardcover that lists for $43.95. It’s available through booksellers and comics shops. You can also order it directly from TwoMorrows. Click here.

Julie Newmar did that as equally well for all of us (old enough) males as sitting across the TV screen . . . .

Julie Newmar episodes are my favorite from the TV show for that very reason as the chemistry between her and Adam West–the Cat vs the Bat–is just delightful.
