TREX Awards 2024

About the programme

TREX recognises the world’s best travel retail-exclusive products and related initiatives. This programme is designed to champion differentiation and acknowledge innovation within the travel retail channel. It encompasses multiple categories, in addition to retailer and brand collaborations.

Entries will cover the products/initiatives undertaken between 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024. The awards cover a variety of categories, including Best Travel Retail Exclusive (TREX) in areas such as confectionery and food, fragrances, cosmetics and beauty, wellbeing, spirits, wines, tobacco and smoke-free products, consumer technology, fashion and accessories, jewellery and watches, children’s products, gifts and crystal, destination merchandise, and travel accessories. There are also special awards for the Best TREX Marketing Campaign, Best TREX Collaboration between a Brand and Retailer (and/or Airport), Best TREX Initiative by a Retailer or Airport, and the ‘Patagotitan’ Award for the best overall TREX initiative or launch.

Award entries are being invited from today until the closing deadline of 21 February 2025.

It can be submitted in Word or PDF format. Please also provide a short quote (approx 50 words) to summarise the nominee(s) / nomination and a high resolution image that can be used for media purposes (virtual award ceremony, online editorial, print).

In addition, entrants will be able to upload supporting documents, information, images and video to the nomination portal once registration is complete.

Each entry must include information under the following headings:

  • Description of the product/initiative – including time frame

  • Objectives of the product/initiative – including target demographics and locations

  • Details of how the product/initiative was launched and activated

  • Results

Judging Criteria

  • Differentiation/Innovation – Is the product/initiative truly different from what is available in domestic markets? Does it genuinely add value?
  • Communication – Is the product specialness and exclusivity communicated well at shopper touch points (including on the product itself, in store and on-line)? Is there a compelling story and reason for a shopper to purchase the product?
  • Responsibility – Has consideration been given to environmental, ethical, and social factors in the creation of the product and its execution?
  • Results – Has the product/initiative delivered what was expected based on initial objectives e.g. sales performance, marketing criteria, premiumisation, meeting a specific shopper need?

Submission Fee

  • US$190 per submission; -15% for two or more entries from the same company

Submissions will be assessed by a diverse panel of experts, including Tim Young, a veteran drinks and travel retail sector executive and the UK-based Founder & Managing Director of Young Spirit Consulting. Tim has an extensive career spanning more than three decades in senior management roles with two of the world’s largest beverage alcohol companies: Seagram and Brown-Forman.

He will be joined by Canny Kwok, a highly regarded figure in the Asian beauty and travel retail world. With over 30 years of business development and market growth experience across Asia, the Mid Pacific, Hawaii, and mainland USA, Canny specialises in luxury travel retail across jewellery, watches, accessories, and perfume and cosmetics categories. Having spent more than 22 years with Bulgari and nearly 12 years with The Estée Lauder Companies, Canny recently took on a new role as Director for Search and Consulting at Exquisitz Asia, a prominent executive search and consulting firm focused on sustainable business in the region.

Together, Tim and Canny will contribute their extensive experience to TREX, alongside Martin Moodie, the Founder and Chairman of The Moodie Davitt Report, who has long championed the travel retail-exclusive concept.
