PET RATS NEED LOVE from humans….
…..and from other rats.
They sleep, snuggle, groom, play and express their love with their rat friends.
With humans they do the same, provided you spend lots of quality time together.

How to Ace Pet Rat Introductions
Tara
I have a female albino rat; She and another were bought as snake food, for my parent’s snake. She was about two months when they got her and when they said they weren’t going to use her, they asked me if I wanted her (which wasn’t ideal for me at the time because of the common view people have of rats). I took her anyways, because I was open to it.
Anyways, she is about two years old now. She seems quite content with being alone, she doesn’t show many signs of being lonely but I feel she could be happier with a friend.
I’m worried she will have conflict with another rat if I got one, I don’t want to get another and have her not like them since she’s used to being by herself.
What’s your opinion? I’m completely okay with just her and I could most definitely care for another rat. I was inexperienced when I first got her, so I didn’t know it would’ve been ideal.
About Pet Rats
Hi Tara,
I would say it would be great to get your rat a friend as long as……
…..you have the time in which to do the introductions properly. You’d also need to possess perseverance. It’s not something you can really give up on once you get a 2nd rat. I believe there’s always a way to get 2 rats to live together, but sometimes you have to be creative (and patient) with the introductions.
…..you’re able to afford veterinary care for both rats
…..you’ve got (or can get) a large enough cage
…..your current rat is in good health
I think your current rat would probably love to meet a new friend. Sometimes when I’ve introduced a new friend to an older female who’s been living alone, they’ve literally gotten a new bounce to their step.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Best Wishes to You & Your Rat,

Thanks, Athena and Marie!
Those pictures are so cute! I didn’t know rats were so lovey!
Thanks, Jackie! A lot of people aren’t aware of how sweet and lovely pet rats are. They’re affectionate, intelligent and, in my opinion, are the perfect combination of dogs and cats. They come when you call just like dogs and groom themselves just like cats! They can also be litter box trained.
Thanks so much for your comment and for stopping by!
I love that photo with the hearts. ♥ ♥
