Personal Planner Review (affordable, completely customisable weekly planner)

I’m a big fan of planners that let you customise everything. The cheapest planner like this that I’ve come across is the Personal Planner.

Quick facts

  • Size: 8.5″ wide x 5.75″ approx. high
  • Cardstock cover with clear plastic cover to protect it
  • Wire binding
  • Removable bookmark
  • Removable clear plastic folder
  • You choose the cover design & test
  • You choose the inside weekly layout from their base options
  • Dates at a glance page
  • Plenty of extra pages to choose from
  • 2 page weekly spread
  • 12 month duration

Cost: $39.95 AUD normally (I purchased during Black Friday sales and paid $31.95). Worldwide shipping is free!

This is not a sponsored post. I purchased the planner myself and as always, all opinions are my own.

The Cover

You can choose whatever text you want for the cover but I opted to just keep it simple and wrote ‘Planner’. There’s multiple cover designs to choose from too.

I wanted something different so opted for the landscape page orientation (i.e. the binding is on the short side of the planner, not the long side like most other planners)

It came with an elastic band to keep it closed but I couldn’t figure out how to attach it – I like it better without it anyway.

Monthly Calendar

There is no monthly calendar with this planner. Works better for me as I don’t use the traditional box style calendar format anyway. There is an annual overview with list format:

The colors on these pages coresspond wth the colors for each month used throughout the planner <3

Weekly Planning

You can choose the banner pattern at the top of the page – I opted for this marble effect as it’s neutral I figured it would work better with a variety of color theme spreads.

I do like the landscape page orientation I chose as the columns are wider for each day. I’ll be turning the pages back on themselves when i use this planner though, as it’s too long with both pages open.Personal planner weekly planner review horizontal vertical weekly spread you choose layout completely custom monday week start habit tracker

You have the option of choosing between unlined, lined, dot grid etc. for each day.

You can choose to have the holidays for your country (not just the USA!) pre-printed on the pages.

Extras pages

You can choose from many add ons:

The add ons I chose were:

  • Annual overview (monthly calendars in list format)
  • List pages
  • Meal planning
  • Habit tracker (coloring in / doodle style)
  • Monthly tracker
  • Yearly tracker
  • Dot grid pages

Something you’d typically find in a bullet journal planner – coloring in style habit tracker!

You can order an entire notebook with just dot grid pages but I opted to just add a few to the back of the planner. I’m going to use them for a bullet journal spread.

Pen Testing

I tried all the usual ballpoint, gel, fine tip pens, highlighters and stamps. The paper feels thick and smooth to write on.

There was some minor ghosting and a bit of bleed through for the marker pens but overall, not too bad.

Some of the things you can customise:

  • Front cover design
  • Front cover text
  • Page size
  • Inside weekly spread layout
  • Planner start date
  • National holidays for your country
  • Pattern to appear on the weekly spreads
  • Finer details on the weekly spread e.g. weather icons
  • Blank, dot grid, lined, rainbow lines writing space on the weekly spread
  • The bottom of the weekly spread – habit trackers, list, notes, menu plan, dotted etc.
  • Can add your own personal dates e.g. birthdays
  • Choose from numerous back page options – the usual lined, dotted etc. but also random things like Soduku, world map, coloring pages, habit trackers, journaling etc.

You can also purchase stickers – of course I chose the rainbow set.

Pros of the Planner

  • Lightweight
  • Bright white paper
  • 4 sizes to choose from
  • Multiple weekly spreads to choose from (and you can customise them)
  • Plenty of add on page options
  • Free worldwide shipping
  • Affordable price (especially for a completely custom planner)
  • Fast print + shipping processing + delivery
  • Removable bookmark
  • Plastic pocket folder
  • Paper quality is better than most planners
  • All of the customisation options listed above!

Cons of the Planner

  • No tabs
  • Can’t add many pages at the back of the planner (due to page limit restrictions – I think they only do 1 binding size)
  • Wire binding catches on the back pages – I think coil binding would be better
  • Couldn’t find an option to add monthly calendars to the planner (although I may have missed this option on their website)

Would I use this planner?

Yes. I like having so much control over all the finer details of the planner. It would be even better if the company offered more weekly layouts and allowed more add on pages. The price of the planner + free shipping + custom = really good value.

  1. I am on my third year with Personal Planner, and every year they add new features. You can add a monthly spread at the beginning of each month, but I don’t think monthly-only is available. I get blank pages at the back of mine and make full page stickers for tracking all of my goals. I also customize front & back covers. It’s a nice planner and price is good for what you get

  2. This is (I hope) planner peace for me. You have no IDEA how long and how much I have spent digitally and paper wise to find it. THanks.

  3. I love the landscape orientation. Looks like you have a lot of room to write. You could make this with disc bound if you didn’t mind printing every page for the year. Well, and designing the pages too.
