Kenya: Beware Fake Ad On Facebook Claiming Kenya's Bamburi Cement Is Hiring

Beware fake ad on Facebook claiming Kenya's Bamburi Cement is hiring

IN SHORT: Ads on Facebook claim that the cement maker is looking to recruit for various roles. However, Bamburi says that legitimate vacancies are only advertised on its official website and verified social media channels.

A job advert circulating on Facebook claims Bamburi Cement, a Kenyan company that produces cement and concrete, is recruiting.

The jobs advertised include administrators, technicians, plant operators, manual labourers, electricians and customer service representatives.

Interested candidates are asked to send their CV and covering letter to an Outlook email address by 16 January 2025. The job advertisement was previously circulated with a different deadline of 9 January and a Gmail address for submissions.

The ad appears here and here. (Note: See more instances at the end of the report.)

But is this a legitimate job advert? We checked.

Ignore fake job ad

The email address given in the ad, [email protected], raises suspicions. According to Bamburi Cement's official website, their email addresses usually follow the format [email protected].

The use of an Outlook or Gmail email address is a red flag.

We searched the careers section of Bamburi Cement's website but did not find the jobs advertised in the Facebook posts. We only found a vacancy for a human resource business partner.

Lastly, Bamburi Cement dismissed the job ad as "FAKE" on its verified Facebook page.

"Beware! All Bamburi Cement PLC career opportunities are only advertised on our company website and official social media platforms," the company wrote.

The fake job ad also appears here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.
