Everything Barbara told me about EmFace turned out to be true. Don't think there's an easier treatment out there!

I work in a client-facing job so I am always concerned about looking overdone or having bruises. Amara are very aware that this is a concern for a lot of people and it's why I choose them. It's also nice that I always see other men getting treatments whenever I'm there.

A friend recommended Amara and Dr Janelle to me. All my expectations were met. The clinic is fab, the staff are always super friendly yet discreet (which I LOVE) and my results have been amazing! Recommend.

I'm a photographer so maybe I pay a little more attention to facial details than other people. I came to amara with a concern and Roisin advised several options and I chose EmFace and it has fixed my issue perfectly.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ - Why do I have tear troughs?

Tear troughs are hollows under the eyes that area a result of a loss of fat in the infraorbital compartment. Everyone has tear troughs but some can be deeper than others. This happens because of aging but sometimes can be a genetic characteristic.

+ - Can tear trough filler go wrong?

Tear trough filler is a very safe treatment in the right hands, but it can go wrong. Inexperienced injectors can overfill the area resulting in puffiness due to impaired lymphatic drainage. Bruising is also a potential side effect, more likely when not using a cannula. Contrary to popular belief, under eye filler does NOT cause blindness. Be sure to go to an experienced injector who knows their anatomy!

+ - How much does tear trough filler cost?

See our price list for tear trough filler prices, but as of january 2023 tear trough filler is €600. As the most technically difficult area to treat with filler along with nose filler, it is usually best only to be done by someone with several years experience and several thousand procedures under their belt.

+ - What is the down time after tear trough filler?

If you use a cannula there is no recovery time with tear trough filler. The risk of bruising is very low, and as we always under-treat to preempt swelling, any swelling means the result will become slightly better. If a bruise does develop, which is the case in less than 5% of our treatments, it is usually smaller than a spot and can be covered with makeup.

+ - Are Hyaluronic acid fillers safe to use for tear trough?

Hyaluronic acid is a very safe and hypoallergenic compound so doesn't cause allergic reactions like fillers in decades gone by. The only remaining side effects are over treatment by inexperienced doctors or bruises which can also be more likely in the hands of inexperienced doctors or injectors who don't use cannulas where indicated.

+ - How long does tear trough filler take to work?

Tear trough filler works instantly, as the hyaluronic acid fills the under eye hollow physically and immediately, you can see the results straight away. There is a tendency to swell perhaps a further 5% which can take a day or two.

+ - How long does tear trough filler last?

Tear trough filler is technically indicated to last for only 6-12 months, however in our experience, due to how immobile the under eye area is, filler can stay here undisturbed for a lot longer than other areas. Under eye filler can last for several years.

+ - Are tear trough and anti wrinkle injections the same?

Tear trough filler is different to well known anti wrinkle injection drugs as it doesnt have a direct impact on the muscles. It will help fine lines by reflating loose skin but doesnt change the way muscles move.

+ - Is tear trough filler safe?

Large volumes of filler must be avoided for safety reasons. The filler selected must also be suitable to the very thin skin in the region. To avoid complications a thin filler is used and placed in a flat, sheet like manner. Needles can be used in certain instances but in most using a cannula and some light massaging is best. A cannula is more suitable than a needle in most cases because it minimises the chances of bruising, and allows our doctors to inject filler flatly in multiple areas with only one injection point.

+ - Why do people get tear trough fillers?

Tear trough filler addresses several problems. Bone recession, along with sagging or drooping of the fat pads in and around the eyes detract from a fresh eye appearance. Volume deficits that arise as part of these natural ageing processes contribute greatly to a tired overall look. Discolouration and dark circles often result as the skin is placed under duress.

+ - Can you get other treatments with tear trough?

The aim of Tear Trough Filler treatment is always to correct these volume deficits and improve the tone of the skin around the eyes. While a natural tear trough treatment will improve discolouration we also have medical grade creams which will significantly restore the condition of the skin around the eyes. Also anti wrinkle injections can be used with tear trough filler for even better results.

+ - How are tear trough fillers done?

By carefully placing dermal filler into deficits, we subtly restore volume to rejuvenate the appearance of the area. Tear trough filler can be placed in specific deficit points or it can be injected a sheet like manner to ensure the volume added improves the area in a natural way.

+ - Are tear trough fillers popular?

The number of people looking to address these concerns has increased dramatically recently thanks to improvements in product technology (the Juvederm Vycross Range) and technique which lead to better results. No longer is surgery the only way to fix tired eyes.

+ - How much filler do you use in the tear trough?

Small amounts go a long way. Typically tear trough fillers only need 1ml of juvederm high quality vycross fillers like volift or volbella. Thats 0.5ml per eye. This is only 1/5th of a teaspoon, or put another way 1/10 of a teaspoon under each eye!

+ - How will I look after tear trough filler?

Your under eyes will get results that restore an even and filled out under eye area. The skin tone and colour of the skin should also improve following the injection of hyaluronic acid as water is drawn to the area.

+ - How long do tear trough fillers last?

Tear trough fillers are licensed to last up to 18 months, but because this part of the face barely moves, filler can last much longer in some people. This is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because the filler doesn't need to be done so often. It is a curse because cheap fillers can be visible and look blue in colour for a long time. Don't worry though, you can dissolve these fillers with hyalase.

+ - How much filler should be used in tear troughs?

Tear troughs rarely need more than 1ml of filler, 1/2 a ml per side. Sometimes a cheek filler treatment might be needed to complement.
