Salutations fellow homo-saipens! Welcome to my first post on this amino. If you didn't read the title, today I will be discussing why the lead singer of avenged sevenfold aka. M. Shadows no longer screams. Hope you enjoy.

THE OPINIONS

I noticed many people hated the fact that Shadows stop screaming, while others didn't really care. If you look on the comments on a lot of avenged sevenfold songs ( especially from the Waking the fallen album ) many people comment "this is A7X's true sound" or " remember when M. Shadows used to scream". While I gravitate towards some opinions, I respect all of them.

THE MYTHS

Many people started to theorize that when he had his pre-City of Evil surgery he lost his ability to scream. In reality he just lost 5 notes from his vocal range. The surgery did make his screams slightly different, but you can barely hear the difference.

THE TRUTH

The truth to why Matt Shadows stopped screaming is quite simple. He just didn't want to. He reaveled in an interview that the band just screamed over anything that they didn't know what to do with. He eventually stopped because he wanted to put more effort into avenged sevenfold's music. He also revealed that he wants to preserve his voice and screaming was ruining it slowly.

GOD HATES US

The best evidence that we have that M. Shadows can still scream was when A7X performed their song ' God Hates Us' live. His screams were amazing and they proved many people wrong. Here is a link to the performance if you wish to see it :skull: 🦇

NEW LIVE SCREAMER

Avenged sevenfold's bassist aka Johnny Christ has now took over the responsibility of aiding M. Shadows in live screaming. Shadows does the main vocals and some screams, while Johnny does the rest of the heavy screams. This helps Matt keep his voice healthy while performing and gives Johnny Christ more recognition.

CURRENT VOCAL STATE

Avenged sevenfold was forced to cancel their ' End Of World ' tour after M. Shadows was told by a doctor that he needs to rest his vocal cords. Apparently a blood blister had formed on Matt's vocal cords causing them to not vibrate properly.
