Why I love the Hoenn Region

While everyone else is super excited for Sun and Moon, I'm over here still enjoying Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I am excited for the new games, but I'm replaying Alpha Sapphire right now and I forgot how much I loved that game. Hoenn is my second favorite region (Johto being my first) and I have really high hopes for Sun and Moon because ORAS was so fun and incredible.

The main reason I like the Hoenn region is it's huge amount of varying landscapes. There is desserts, oceans, forests, volanic areas, ash covered areas, beaches, islands, underwater areas, and spring water areas. THERE ARE SO MANY PLACES! For some, they may not like this, but I really like it. I also like how everytown I go to within the game doesn't have a gym. If every town has a gym then it gets kinda boring. Exploring the different towns and what their characteristics are is one of my favorite things to do. It makes me feel like I am fully submerged into this region and culture. That is exactly what I want to feel when I play a video game. When I play video games it is usually because I want to escape something and if I can't get into a game and be submerged into it then I usually won't like the game and will most likely stol playing.

The starters from the Hoenn region are one of my favorites. I like how simple they are. A grass lizard, a fire bird, and a water...thing. They are all unique in their own ways. Their midde and final evolutions are really cool and awesome too. Everyone loves Blaziken and his mega is also really cool. Mega Swampert kinda reminds me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but that doesn't mean I like him any less. Mega Sceptile just turned, but at least we can see his awesome tail now. All of the mega evolutions of these Pokémon make them look cooler. I can't help, but love all of the Hoenn Starters.

Hoenn has my favorite Gym Leaders in the entire Pokémon franchise. To me, all of the gym leaders are completely unique and creative. I believe that in Hoenn's story, we have the most connection to gym leaders too, because the character's dad is Norman, the fifth gym leader. Norman's gym gave me so many feels. When he was talking about how he felt happy and sad when you beat him, it made me feel warm inside and sympathetic. It showed that Norman actually cares about his son/daughter and is proud of him/her. Even if you did just beat him (I crushed Norman, but thats off subject) and make him look bad in his own gym. I also believe Hoenn has a big variety in the gym leaders characteristics too. You have Flannery, the inexperienced one, and you have Liza and Tate, the double battlers. I loved gathering the badges in Hoenn because at some parts it was hard to find the town where the gyms were. Flannery's town was kind of hard to get to for me, but that could just be my tendency to wander around the region.

Wally is a huge part in why I like the Hoenn region. Wally is compassionate, kind, sweet, and determined. All of those traits are extremely positive characteristics. He is our rival throughout the games, but I never find myself getting annoyed or angry at him, I usually do with rivals too. I really liked how we got to help catch Wally's first Pokémon too. We get to see him grow over time. We experience life changing things with Wally. We get to see him accept that losing is fine and he can learn from it, we get to see his health improve over time, and we see how him and his Pokémon's relationship is improving greatly. Wally is an overall great complex character that I enjoy running into and battling.

This last reason for my love of the Hoenn region is kind of strange and a little stupid. For some reason, I really like how both the male and female characters are dressed. I like the male's hat and the way the females hair is. This could be due to the fact that as a young child, May was my favorite character in the Pokémon Anime. As I grew older the feeling of happiness towards her must have stuck and the female character is dressed almost, if not exactly, like May. I really like the Male clothes too. If I was to be in the Pokémon universe and I had to pick out clothes I would take the clothes right off of him and wear them happily.

Overall I love the Hoenn Region dearly and will always enjoy playing Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire. They will always be dear to me. I love the landscape, the starters, gym leaders, rivals and the characters clothes. Almost everything in the Hoenn region is perfect. Replaying Alpha Sapphire has really made the Hoenn Region high in my list of favorite regions. Remember this is all 100% my opinion and I'm sorry if it disagrees with everthing you believe in.
