General:
The Compact Combat Assault Droid is the most recent addition to Blackwood Industries’ catalogue of available products. Featuring a large, wide base to allow for maximum stability, carrying capacity, and storage potential, the Compact Assault Droid sports a basic virtual intelligence and heard mentality between units up to clusters of 150 units. This allows for a cluster of units to act with relative independence and minimal oversight when nessisarily and be tasked to perform combat sweeping, guard duty, or patrols among other menial tasks allowing soldiers to focus on other vital tasks.
Armament, Armor, and Features
As mentioned previous the Compact Assault Droids come equip with rudimentary Virtual Intelligence. This virtual intelligence is stunted by design to allow for greater control over these units by a commanding officer compared to fully sentient droids, or droids possessing artificial intelligence. This Virtual Intelligence however can be removed as needed allowing for simple looping commands, or remote control of the units as desired.
While the intelligence of the unit is intact and other units are present together, a herd mentality is established allowing units to operate in sync with one another allowing for efficient control, movement, attacks, or defenses. This herd mentality does not override individual orders a specific unit receives, and it does not pass these orders to other units unless directly instructed.
The treads a compact assault droid runs on are made from individual segments linked together. Each link is a thick soft rubber that has three high density alloy bars running the length of it. The modular design allows for repair and replacements of individual damaged segments rather than replacing the entire track.
This display model shows off the 15mm belt fed canon. This cannon fires 12mm armor piercing, high explosive, and tracer rounds by default and the recoil is managed by a double redundant hydraulic system and while weight and balance is not a concern due to the body construction, the casings are not ejected outside the the droid but rather ejected into a partitioned section of the ammunition drum.
The ammunition drum for the cannon attachment is set up with the live ammunition kept in a double stacked outer barrel and the spent brass is ejected into a inner barrel. Venting is present at the rear of the ammunition canisters to allow for proper airflow and cooling.
The cannon armament even with a recoil dampening system, and locked treads is still powerful enough to push the unit back and as such the cannon is set to fire in 50 round bursts with a one and a half second interval between firing.
A blaster cannon attachment is an option, replacing the two sectioned ammunition drum with a BI119 mode fusion generator rated to output 50,000 shots before needing to be replaced. The fusion generator is cooled with the use of BI119 coolant circulated throughout the generator.
The blaster cannon itself is capable of two firing modes, fully automatic which fired 1 bolt every .32 seconds and powerful single shot that takes two seconds to collect the appropriate power before firing.
The blaster cannon itself should be replaced every 150,000 regular shots and after 75,000 power shots. Failure to replace the barrel will render the unit less effective in overall combat but not render the unit non combat effective.
Constructed using starfighter rated durasteel titanium alloy measuring 1,788 mm thick the entire unit is extremely resilient at base and with the additional option to install a deflector shield generator via the quick maitnence hatch on top of the unit, the Combat Assault droid can give even the toughest opponents pause.
The armor around the arms of the unit is nearly double the base armor thickness at 3,322 mm thick allowing the unit to act as miniature tanks while in transport mode.
The Combat Assault Droid is stored, transported, and initially deployed in the Transport configuration. In this configuration the unit measures 31.18 inches across, 25.86 inches wide and 21.11 inches high and only 361.82 pounds making them remarkably compact and able to be stacked during storage and transport.
Taking only three seconds to reconfigure into combat mode the Combat Assault Droid can be fully deployed and engage the opponent almost immediately after deployment and with the extensive firepower they provide can overwhelm a unprepared and underestimating opponent.
The display model shown here comes equip with a tow hook, this is a added feature that can be installed or removed depending on the situation and necessity.
