Love the machine, not a fan of the subscription service nor the software

Love the machine, not a fan of the subscription service nor the software
***Update 10/23/2016*** I finally cancelled the subscription service (Cricut Access), as most months, I wasn't using it. The last few times I've used the Cricut Design Space software, it's been really slow. I've been counting, and it takes about 30 seconds or more to change a font. Frustrated, I wrote Cricut support and this is the response I received: "I am sorry to hear about the issue that you are experiencing in the Design Space. This is a normal issue. It will take some time because it needs to load all the fonts." Problem is it's not that it takes 30 seconds to LOAD the fonts, it takes 30 seconds to CHANGE the font. Also, what's odd is that it didn't used to take this long to load fonts. Based on this one fact alone, I've decided to sell the Explore and switch to the Silhouette.-------------------------------------------This is my first cutting machine ever. I had never really understood what people did with these machines and so I'd never been interested in them. Then my friend started making iron-on transfers for t-shirts with her Silhouette (the competitor to the Cricut) and I was intrigued. I was starting to amass a small paper collection, and had even purchased a few of those We R punch boards to make envelopes and boxes, so this was a natural progression. It's so much easier with the Cricut.I took the machine out of its box and stared at it, thinking "this is a really over-priced x-acto knife!". I ran through the cheesy little tutorial to print the "hello" phone greeting card. Though I put the wrong paper in and nearly cut through the mat, I was impressed! It was really cool to see the machine in action. But still, I didn't really know what people DID with them. I started looking online at Pinterest and saw all these goofy things people were making with them, and while they weren't my cup of tea, I at least started to get a feel for what the machine could do; vinyl graphics/stickers, iron-on transfers, greeting cards, party favors, home decor...The Cricut is much simpler than it looks. I admit, I felt intimidated by it and I'm an experienced crafter and know my way around technology. I think the main thing people struggle with is - where do I start? What do I make? What can it do? I started playing around with the Design Space software. I did *not* like that it was web-based, but even so, I've not had a single issue with the software since I started using it. Each day or so, I'd get an email from Cricut with a tutorial video. I started watching them and lo and behold... most of my questions started getting answered. It all started to make sense! I cut a few of their greeting cards and then started to make a few of my own from scratch. I also created and uploaded some of my own SVG (cut) files and made an iron-on transfer. It was really easy.I had a free two-week trial to their image/font store called Cricut Access. There are a LOT of images, shapes, fonts and projects in there for "free" if you subscribe. Unfortunately, the cost per month is $10 if you buy monthly or $8/mo if you buy a year at a time. You *can* buy any of the items individually, but it could add up quickly. Downside to the Cricut access subscription is that as soon as you stop paying for the subscription, you no longer have access to the included images, fonts, etc.The machine itself is a dream and I've not had one issue with it. I've used it from both my iPad and my laptop. It's never mis-cut, jammed or errored out. The only errors that have happened have been my fault. My only gripe is that they don't include a few more supplies with the machine. It's a $230 machine... how about throwing in the scoring stylus? Or the tool kit? Or an extra blade? A few pieces of cardstock? Anything???

Just arrived and we are VERY impressed. This is our second one and they've come a LONG way since the beginning.
The new software is easy to use (web based) and the machine is incredible. First project was a stencil cut out of card stock. The machine did it perfectly and was even able to cut some very small details. Next we cut some vinyl for some decals and again, perfection. It has settings for other materials as well that we havent tried yet but I have no doubt we'll be equally impressed when we do.
If you do any sort of craft work where you need detailed designs, this is a MUST HAVE.

LOVE LOVE LOVE MY CRICUT! Learning new things every day that I can make with it. If you're crafty like me but can't quite figure out how to make your crafts come to life, this might be the tool for you! It doesn't connect to your computer without a cord, but you can buy an adapter for that. I recommend getting another 12x12 mat with the light adhesive as well as the ones with the normal that come with it, I would not recommend using the normal adhesive cutting mat with cardstock or paper, it tears too easily and it's hard to get off the mat.

I review after using the product for a while. Purchased this in November of 2015. This has changed my sewing and crafting life! I have used my Cricut a LOT!! Does everything I need.. excellently.. the precision cutting design is genius! Saves me a lot of time and money. I have the simple "One" blade design; I wanted cutting and not printing. Stencils, paper cut-outs, craft foam stickers and stamps, and designing your own patterns online.. for this it cannot be beat! If you are not computer savvy, though, it can be a bit of a learning curve.. the online design site can get a little buggy sometimes.. still relies on the old flash. I trust it will be updated to at least HTML5 soon. But if you save your designs off-line, you can upload them and adjust the size. The precision of the thickness dial is also excellent. After a while, I wonder how I did without it. After all of this time still going strong.

I have an original Cricut cutter that only handled 6" wide paper. I'm so excited to upgrade to the 12" size. This machine works nice. I've had to refer to YouTube tutorials a LOT since the software is hard to figure out on your own. This machine requires internet connection and needs to be hard wired to your computer (cord included). Wireless is achieved via another accessory you must buy. If you buy this machine, strongly suggest you also buy the scoring stylus and pen. The Explore and Explore Air have the ability to cut and use the scoring stylus or pen as it has 2 "slots". This machine only has one slot so you must switch between the blade and the scorer/pen, but it stops cutting to allow you to change out the blade for the scorer or pen when the scorer/pen is needed.

PS I just love this machine. I wrote the above review 2 days after I got it. It's been a month or so and I'm having so much fun with it. I subscribe to Cricut Design Space and am getting pretty good at custom designing cards. Definitely hooked,

I never knew what this was when I bought it on Amazon. Thought I MIGHT be able to use in my pottery making business. Now I use it everyday.
Could use a LETS GET STARTED GUIDE like you see in new computers. Had to go on youtube to try to figure things out. Should be a CRICUT FOR IDIOTS GUIDEBOOK out there. They just came out with new models that are twice as fast but I only use it for stencils so no need to upgrade. I can wait ten extra seconds. Would be different if I was on it all day long.

LOVE my Cricut! I found it for a much better price on Amazon than I have yet to find in stores.

I opted to not get the bluetooth version and I don't think I am missing out one bit. The machine still has to be plugged into an outlet on my working desk and my computer is always right there with me on my working desk so it's no biggie to not have it wirelessly enabled.

The Explore One does NOT allow you to cut and write at the SAME time but you can still cut and write separately. There is only one slot for the blade or the pen. I really don't even use the writing feature as you have to pay for almost very single font, however, you can use your own fonts but I noticed a lot of my fonts are not in 'writing style' format so they all come out blocked lettered which I do not like.

Overall I would say this was a great investment. I can do so many crafts with this one machine!

Love my cricut. Be cautious with this. I ordered and I could tell my cutting mat had been used. Not sure if the machine was used or not. Either way it works great for me and because my mat was used amazon gave me a discounted price so it all worked out.
