The Sure, Safe Way to Eye the SKY (Photo Credit - Fred Espenak)
Founded by Mark S. Margolis over 40 years ago, Rainbow Symphony is not only the largest manufacturer of eclipse glasses in the world, but is also a developer of plastic designer eclipse glasses, solar viewers and solar filters for telescopes and binoculars. Made in the USA
Whether you’re an amateur astronomer with an eye towards the stars or a seasoned eclipse chaser with a love for all things science, a solar eclipse is a truly unforgettable event –– and one that everyone should experience at least once!
Our solar viewers are made in the USA and trusted by NASA and the American Astronomical Society. Crafted from innovative, scratch-resistance black / silver polymer material, you can depend on the lenses to filter out all harmful infrared and ultraviolet light. They also shield your eyes from 99.999% of high-intensity visible light.
Whether you’re hosting a viewing party with your friends and family, your employees, or any of your fellow sky gazers who decide to show up, our custom solar eclipse glasses will allow you to view the incredible spectacle safely and in style.
Safety Tips:
Children should always be supervised
Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a solar eclipse but eclipse glasses are not a toy. Make sure children are supervised by an adult.
Purchase Your Glasses From A Reputable Dealer
Make sure your glasses are from a reputable source. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.
Look for the ISO mark and ISO 12312-2:2015 This certifies that your glasses are safe for eclipse viewing.
Make Sure Your Glasses Are In Good Repair (Photo Credit Geoff Simms)
Make sure your glasses are in good condition. Always make sure to inspect your lenses carefully for any cracks, scratches, or other types of damage that would allow a light leak, whether you are reusing eclipse glasses from previous eclipses or a brand-new pair of eclipse glasses.
Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer —the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury. Those devices require different types of solar filters.
When viewing the partial phases of the eclipse through cameras, binoculars, or telescopes equipped with proper solar filters, you do not need to wear eclipse glasses. (The solar filters do the same job as the eclipse glasses to protect your eyes.)
View the Sun through eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer during the partial eclipse phases before and after totality. You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)
As soon as you see even a little bit of the bright Sun reappear after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2024Style: Wrap-around GoggleVerified PurchaseThe glasses were comfortable and worked great for watching the recent total solar eclipse. I've also found that they are useful for looking directly at the sun other than during the eclipse. Recently read about solar flares and used the glasses to look directly at the sun to see if I could spot any prominent flares.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2024Style: Folding GlassesVerified PurchaseGetting the proper gear for solid events is so important. We chose to get nicer glasses and loved have the paper back ups should friends forget their glasses.
The quality of the glasses with the added safety inspections and certifications was exactly what we needed and were looking for.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2017Style: Folding GlassesVerified PurchaseI bought a pair of Eclipser HD by American Paper Optics and a pair of Eclipse Shades by Rainbow Symphony. Compared them briefly (along with the free pair of paper shade that comes with Eclipse Shades) and the following are my initial impressions.
1. I wear prescription glasses. Both fit better and block out more stray light from the sides than the typical paper shades. The paper can be even stay in place over my heads. personally I find Eclipse Shades block out slightly more stray light, but that probably depend on the types of glass frames I am wearing.
2. construction wise, Eclipser HD's silverish reflective film feels thinner than the black film of Eclipse Shades, which looks and feels a little more durable. Eclipser HD silver film seems to be of similar material to the paper shade.
3. Looking at the sun, all three project the sun as an orange/yellow disc and looks clear. Among the three, Eclipse Shades' sun looks the darkest (more orange) but it has the least amount of halo. Eclipser HD's and the paper shade's sun looks a tint brighter (instead of a deep orange, it leans towards a yellowish-orange) but there appears to be more halo around the sun. Eclipser HD more so than the paper shades.
I don't have a conclusion which is better since the eclipse has yet to come. Would the slightly brighter sun (but with more halo) rendered by Eclipser HD render my experience more enjoyable than Eclipse Shades slightly darker sun with less halo? I don't know, I guess I will be switching back and forth comes Eclipse day. If I had to choose one pair at this time, I will probably go with Eclipse Shades, for the better fit (for me) and a "cleaner" sun (with the least amount of halo)
You can't go wrong with either one of those. I would definitely not recommend the paper shades, which lets in too much stray light and does not stay on my face at all. My recommendation is, whether you wear prescription glasses or not, for a once in a lifetime experience, spending an extra $15 for a plastic framed shade is well worth it.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2024Style: Clip-on FrameVerified PurchaseI used these for the April 8th, 2024 eclipse while in Carbondale, IL and I have to say, these were absolutely fantastic. They fit perfectly over my sunglasses as well as eye glasses so I can perfectly watch the sun and eclipse. Highly recommend and will be saving these for future eclipses I attend!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2017Style: Wrap-around GoggleVerified PurchaseThe eclipse glasses I received today look different than the photo, as the lenses are reflective, silver in color. I immediately put them on and went outside where I could see nothing, until I faced the sun. Honestly, I found the view thrilling. It's great being able to stare at the sun without a care. I saw the sun and a bit of the clouds around it. My wife has zero interest in any of this kind of stuff, but I had her walk outside, put the glasses on, and then face the sun. She had to admit that it was great. I've already received my money's worth from these glasses. The wrap-around style works very well. They're a tiny bit small on me, but really, I don't care. It doesn't matter. But for your benefit, I'll say that I'm an adult male with (I think) an average size head. The fit is certainly adequate. The quality of the build seems to be very good, solid. I expect these glasses to perform great when I travel to see the eclipse in August of this year (2017). If I don't update this review after the eclipse, you'll know they were fantastic, and I certainly believe they will be. But for now, they get five stars just because I get to look right at the sun and really see it . . . . without going blind!
