- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2025What I liked is the unit can be powered by usb port, solar cell located in the top of the unit, internal lithium battery, and AA batteries. I also liked the durable feel of the case. NOAA weather radio fidelity is acceptable to good with a little finesse with the antenna. The ex alert works well. The AM and FM bands are very good. What I do not like but I can mitigate it, is the fidelity of the weather band. Midland can only do so much with it. It does take a little work determining the best angle and direction of the antenna. But the durability, antenna quality/flexibility, and the cost offset and can mitigate the static inherent in this band.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2025We like how loud the weather alert siren is - definitely can't sleep through it even when it's in another room. Love all of the features, especially so many options to recharge it and charge other devices if needed. Works well in basement with cinder-block walls. Not especially intuitive in terms of on/off, when weather alert feature is turned on, etc., so we keep the instructions right by the weather radio instead in a folder with other instruction booklets. But we were so happy with it that we bought a second after one first one stopped working. The charging cord is really short, and if you pick up the radio while it is charging via cord, it is easy to pull up too much and the radio jumps out of your hand and falls to the floor. Definitely user error. How many times does that have to happen before you remember and act differently? Don't know yet, but more times than the radio can continue working after it's been dropped on the floor. I will say the radio survived quite a few drops before it broke.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2017I was delightfully surprised when I discovered that I could listen to the radio simultaneously solar-charging it!( and it was actually signaling that the battery was almost dead-amazing).
It does run out quickly but even on cloudy-and I mean very cloudy, in the Northeast, in winter, when the sun is low type cloudy-days, it recharges wonderfully.
I've never had to crank it or put in batteries, just install the special battery they send with the device.
Great product, good price.
You do need to use your own iPhone charging cable if you want to charge it by a household electrical receptacle-via The USB charging capability.( honestly-There are so many ways to charge this radio, more than they tell you).
All the other ones I've bought and returned because they were cheap knock off's. The L.L. Bean model made by Eton-a cheap joke, made in China I'm sure-obviously, what isn't. This is made in the good all USA and This is sturdy, I even had it outside during some rain sprinkles-And it was still recharging amazingly-I just brought it inside and use a towel to wipe it off.
It is well-designed, well-built and I think I will get years of use out of it.
I will probably buy at least One more just to have on hand for bartering purposes.… {You know… When the time comes when even bitcoin is nonnegotiable! Silver is good for bartering but I like to have a stash of things that people won't do without-kind of like a store-different kinds of toothpaste, hair ties, deodorant(men's and women's),even tobacco and hard alcohol-a good thing to have if someone needs a tooth pulled or, God( can I still say that word on social media?! ) forbid, a mangled finger amputated. If you think the hospitals are going to be open and you'll be able to just waltz into an emergency room and have some doctor sew-up a wound then you probably shouldn't be reading this review} toilet paper toilet paper toilet paper and paper towels, hygiene products, toothpicks, dental floss, plastic baggies and six mill 100 foot rolls of clear plastic and brand new tarps.... obviously it's best that everything is all in its new packaging not opened. Really All you have to do is go through your day and you'll realize how bummed out you would be if you had to go three months without "X ".... heck I haven't tried going to days without electricity then try six days without power and pretend you don't have any shampoo or soap or toothpaste or toothbrush for that matter and see how you feel… Have you got water? You can't go without water for more than two days pier People always think food OK I got everything I need because I've got food. Believe me Americans don't need food-we could go without food for quite a long time and it would be better for us. But, H2O, water, that clear beautiful liquid that you're thirsty dry throat will quench and long for-you better have that and a way to filter it in a way to get to where the source is. Maybe you can't. So that's when these bartering items will really come in handy-C I've convinced you?! I am not crazy.
In addition to preparing survival tools and food it's very smart to have things with which you can trade for handyperson's services (a plumber, an electrician or even a dentist).
Ok ok...Some people reading this will think I've gone off the cliff but other people who know where I'm at will 'get it'! It's OK if you think I'm crazy, I don't mind.
Don't hesitate to buy this if you're looking for:
1) just a fairly good, easily portable, cool-looking radio (I bought the red one and I really like it and it's easy to find when I'm rushing out the door to do yardwork)
2)a radio for emergencies when there is no electricity
3)a super gift
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2022We live in Michigan and while we do not have hurricanes here, we do have severe weather in the form of tornados, severe thunderstorms, straight line winds, and blizzards. We really have a plethora of extreme weather events. I am 44 years old and have never really had any anxiety about needing to prepare for severe weather or disaster eventualities, but in the last few months my need to have four or five days worth of supplies for my husband and our dogs has started to be a priority.
The government actually has a nice website where they recommend what to have on hand in case of an emergency. They recommend three days worth of supplies, but after the latest hurricane in Florida, we decided to have five or six days. This radio came highly recommended because it not only charges by electricity, but also solar power and hand crank. It also can be used to charge devices like cell phones for emergency use.
I also like the flashlight.
The first thing I did when I opened the package is tuned the radio to the emergency channel. It came in clear and was reporting the weather. We don't have an emergency near us currently, so it was reporting the normal weather and the beach hazard forecast for Lake Michigan which is nearly 45 minutes away. NOAA radio works great.
I then checked the flashlight in a dark room. Both the strobing light (according to my husband) and the regular light are very bright and work great.
We did test out the dog whistle feature and neither of our dogs moved a muscle. I am not certain if this feature actually works on our radio, but I will just trust in the power of the Midland radio and move on.
Next I let the radio stay on with the flashlight until the battery died and then the next day I put the whole thing on our deck to let it charge. This was a very cloudy and overcast day, so I was not expecting much. To my surprise and delight the battery indicator started flashing almost immediately (the internet said to put solar powered devices facing south and this tip helped a lot) and it took about three hours for the radio to charge to two bars.
A Note here - this radio will NOT charge past two bars with the solar charge. I have no idea why and this is why I am not giving it five stars.
I loved that the indicator light blinked so I could tell it was charging.
Once it was charged I used the flashlight and radio at the same time. I will update once I try to do two things: charge a device once I charge the radio to full from a USB and how long it takes for the battery to drain from a full charge.
All in, I really like this radio. I feel better knowing we have a source of outside information (NOAA) in case of a true emergency that does not rely on electricity for power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little storm radio
This is an awesome little storm radio. The speaker is really good for its size. Has an impressive max volume and a multitude of powering methods. Great for listening to local AM/FM stations when camping or kayaking and NOAA stations for when you need weather info. Nice portable size, two-level brightness flashlight, SOS signal, dog whistle, power bank. This radio does it all. A staple of your survival kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un buen radio para emergencias.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good emergency radio
We have only had this unit a couple of months, but it seems good. The radio gets good reception, and the crank does a good job charging. We are going to keep this in our grab bag, as opposed to using it everyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Emergency Radio
Radio came in a timely fashion. i ordered one and my wife ordered one to surprise me lol. Suddenly...I owned two. Gave one to my mother in law. Amazon box on mine was in great shape, but product box was partially ripped and mangled on one side...Product had scuff mark on it. Having said that crap happens. I will keep it. Great sound and good reception. Does exactly what it was designed for. Only downside was the ant on both is really hard to pull out and push in. Will have to be very careful not to bend it.
