A Tempest of Desire: A Novel (Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 263 ratings

New York Times bestselling author Lorraine Heath returns to the fan favorite series, The Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James, with the story of a viscount who has retreated to a small, secluded island only to have a mysterious and beautiful woman wash up on shore.

After surviving a horrific railway accident, Viscount Langdon retreats to his private island to recover and conquer the nightmarish memories that continue to haunt him. The very last thing he wants—or expects—is for London’s most infamous courtesan to wash up on his beach.

Marlowe is known for her bold flirtations, but her most daring exploits involve flying in her hot air balloon. When a storm blows her off course, she discovers herself alone with the isle’s only inhabitant. The gorgeous, seductive lord tempts her beyond reason, but giving into temptation would lead to her ruination because the all-consuming liaison would demand complete surrender. And she has secrets to protect.

Langdon finds the captivating beauty near impossible to resist, but he can’t risk her learning the true reason behind his isolation. However, a powerful tempest of desire is swirling wildly between them, urging them to give in to the perilous passion that could destroy them . . . or perhaps show them the way to love.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Heath is known for her beautiful, deeply emotional romances.”  — Washington Post

“Heath steals your heart, then takes you on a journey that will leave you torn between tears and joy.” — Christina Dodd

“Among Heath’s impressive oeuvre, this one is a standout…This second-chance romance is brimming with heightened emotions: there’s regret and anger and so much delicious yearning.” — Kirkus Reviews (starred review) on The Notorious Lord Knightly

“Brilliant…Heath slowly peels back the layers of her complex protagonists, making their forbidden attraction all the more intense and believable. With just the right blend of romance and mystery, this proves un-put-downable.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review) on The Return of the Duke

“Readers can finally enjoy Marcus’s story, and it is well worth the wait for those who love a strong heroine who breaks down all the preconceived notions that the hero has of her. Hand to readers who already love Heath, as well as fans of Stephanie Laurens and Lisa Kleypas.” — Library Journal on The Return of the Duke

About the Author

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since. Her novels have been recognized with numerous industry awards and have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

U have been looking for a book a little different than the normal run if the mill. I have read 1 and 3 from this series, but I don't remember them. THIS book I will remember. Wonderful story

I really enjoyed reading this book about a courtesan and her also being a balloonist. She had taken her balloon out for a ride and lost in thought met a bad storm that took her out to sea and almost did her in but she washed up on the shore of Langdon's little island. They found out that they were very compatible and didn't want to live without the other. In the end it was a very HEA. I highly recommend this book! ❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍

I loved the story of Marlowe and Lord Langdon! It wasn’t soppy it took time to draw out. It was lovely. Lorraine Heath is my favourite author and I have never been disappointed by any book she’s written. I don’t understand how anyone gave it less than 5 stars. Believe me if a book bores me I don’t read it. I get a sample and delete if I don’t like it but Lorraine heaths books? I pre order all! I loved the story. Loved that both characters weren’t perfect and both had flaws. And the ending wasn’t how I expected it. So well done Lorraine heath and sorry to read about your health ordeal. I m really glad you are better and still able to write more.!! Be blessed! 🌺🌸🇿🇦

Ms. Heath has done it again, this time with the mysterious Marlowe and the equally secretive Viscount Langdon. An emotional ride well worth the price of the ticket.

The book specific to Lucien and Catherine - Oliver’s parents - is included in my short list of all-time favorites. I wondered why their children were never featured in subsequent books and recommended such in a previous review. And now, my wish has been granted! Oliver’s story was great - kudos to the author. I can’t wait for Poppy’s and Stuart’s stories; keep them coming!

I loved this story of Langdon and Marlowe. But, I love all your books in this series and the ones with their parents. You bring the stories to life and I've laughed, smiled, and my eyes welled up too!
