Product Description

Utilizing a custom-formulated stone-derived coating from Germany, the Stone Frying Pan by Ozeri reigns with its ability to deliver non-stick perfection while remaining absolutely free of toxic substances such as APEO, GenX fluorinated chemicals, PFBS, PFOS, PFOA, and the lesser known NMP and NEP. According to the FDA, many of these chemicals constitute a worrisome class of nonstick compounds that have found their way into the food chain, including grocery store meats and seafood. Both the EPA and FDA have conducted toxicology research on exposure to some of these compounds that suggest associations with several kinds of cancers and health issues. Although the harmful PFOA and PFOS acids are being phased out of production, non-stick coatings today are often made with the aid of a new generation of fluoropolymers, known as GenX fluorinated chemicals and PFBS, which the EPA has more recently cited as suggestive of cancer and when consumed, may affect the kidneys, blood, immune system, liver and developing fetuses. Also of concern are APEO chemicals, which are restricted in Germany due to environmental concerns and toxicity in the food chain. By not using any of these ‘forever chemicals,’ the Stone Pan's coating stands ahead of the curve, achieving the highest marks for food safety and environmental health. In addition, the Stone Pan’s coating is applied using a water-based technique that is also free of the lesser known but potentially harmful chemicals NMP and NEP, sometimes found in cookware. The Stone Pan is far more durable and scratch-resistant than other non-stick surfaces, and always a breeze to clean. The Stone Frying Pan is made of a heavy-gauge aluminum core that allows for fast and even cooking without hot spots. It boasts a magnetized bottom for rapid heat transfer on induction stoves, and a heat-resistant silicone-coated handle. Coating made by Weilburger GmbH, Germany. Pan assembled in China.

I bought it because it said made in Germany with no toxic chemicals, pfafs, etc. The box it came in says made in China, so that's disappointing. I had one for 6 years and the coating completely wore off. For reference, I only use a soft, silicone spatula on it, not metal spoons, etc. When I got the new one, the difference between the one I have been using and the new one is striking. I read that this brand was not on the up and up about what it in it, so that's disappointing. I would have purchased something else, but it's really hard to find products that are actually non toxic and do what they say.

    I started using this skillet on May 30, 2017. I tell you that because I will come back to edit if any issues develop. If it's a year from now you'll have a time frame reference.

    Must say I was a little skeptical when I first held this pan in my hands. I was leary of the slightly rough feeling surface. After reading the literature that accompanied this pan, I finally found definitive statements. The surface actually contains natural stone. That sounded interesting to me. Reading the description here I couldn't figure out for sure if they were saying it was a stone like finish or actually made from stone but I finally decided to give the pan a try. It was Prime so I knew I could return it if I was dissatisfied.

    So the first time I sauted chicken in a sauce in this skillet I over cooked the chicken. I quickly discovered you use lower heat setting because it heats up well and holds the heat. I have a standard type electric stove. To saute I actually now reduce the heat to 4 or 5 instead of 7 when I have the pan heated to the desired temperature. If I'm reducing sauce I can turn the heat down to 3 and get wonderful results. Less is more with this pan and it produces beautiful dishes.

    It is non-stick. I was the fry pan with a wash cloth believe it or not. I don't use a sponge with a scrubber side or a dish brush. I use a wash cloth with mild detergent. The booklet actually recommends mild detergents by the way. I use Seventh Generation or Method which I buy here on Amazon. Even though I THINK I remember they say the pan is dishwasher safe, the instruction booklet does NOT recommend it. I don't use metal utensils. I use wood or silicone. After I was out the pan I put a dab of avocado or olive oil on a piece of paper towel and rub it around the inside. Cute side note...they send you a felt insert you can lay inside the pan if you're going to stack it in with other pans. I hung mine up on the wall.

    That's pretty much it. It's a very nice looking piece of cookware. It's hefty in weight so you know it's not cheap. The bottom is insulated for good heat distribution. Doesn't matter that the surface of the pan is not as smooth at a baby's butt because it IS non stick IF you don't set your cooking temperature too high. If anything does stick to the pan just put a little water in the pan and let it sit a while. It all washes out beautifully. I've made a promise to myself. I WILL NOT burn this pan. It's the nicest non stick pan I've ever purchased so I want to take good care of it.

    I have a number of older pans and the food sticks no matter what I do, so I got this one to try out the brand and style. I generally like it. The non-stick quality works well. My ground beef cooked to a unique texture when I was making taco meat, but I don't know how to describe it. Chicken breasts cooked well though - I like to brown on both sides and finish it in the oven and this pan does both stovetop and oven so that's handy. The only thing I find a little annoying is taking special considerations for the pan, not higher than medium heat, let it cool before cleaning, use the protective mat when stacking, etc...but from what I've read this is common for this style of cookware - even the more expensive brand. It's probably not a bad thing that I pay more attention to taking good care of my pan anyway.

    We have had this 12 inch pan since August 2016 and it is our most used pan, easily 4+ days a week, and it still performs amazingly!     The nonstick coating on this pan is better than any pan I have ever had. I use it all the time. I can fry eggs in a dry pan that has been properly seasoned according to the directions. I steam vegetables in their own juices in a dry pan with no sticking. I just put on a lid, use lower heat, and stir the veggies around every 3 or 4 minutes until the juices begin to accumulate. For food that I want to brown and sizzle, I can put only a teaspoon of oil in this great big pan, spread it around over the whole bottom of the pan, and I get great results. I have to use 3 times the oil or more in my stainless steel pan. The secret is to use lower heat and don’t preheat the pan. I put any oil I am going to use in a cold pan and spread it around with my fingers first. Then I add the food and start heating the pan. I don’t cook steaks or any foods that require really high heat to brown quickly, so I don’t know how that would work. I have browned stew meat and chicken breasts, and it worked fine using the above method. I mostly cook eggs and sauté vegetables. I don’t wash it with soap every time I use it. I just wipe it out really well with a dry paper towel. If I wash it with soap, I reseason it with olive oil according to the directions that came with the pan. For its non stick and low fat usage, it’s the best pan I have ever had. It is very easy to clean, and after several months of use, it still looks brand new.

    Now for the not so good part. I only cook with induction cook tops. This pan heats up really well in the center, but the heat doesn’t seem to spread to the edges of the pan very well. My stainless steel pans heat much more evenly. This isn’t a deal breaker for me. I just move the food that is cooking faster to the edges, and move the food that is on the edges towards the center. Or I move the edge of the pan towards the center of the burner.

    I like the non stick on this pan so well that I just purchased a 10 inch pan. I am hoping the poor heat transfer will be less of an issue with a smaller pan. For low fat induction cooking, I would highly recommend this pan.

    Ich habe die Pfanne noch nicht lange und kann deshalb nichts über die Haltbarkeit sagen, aber funktional ist sie super. Groß, gut gearbeitet, wackelt nicht, fester gummierter Griff - alles bestens!
    In der Anleitung wird erzählt, man bräuchte den Herd nicht so heiß stellen, aber das kann ich nicht bestätigen. Ich vermute eher, das soll helfen, die Beschichtung zu schützen. Zum Braten muss man ganz normal eine hohe Stufe einstellen. Aber dann brät sie auch schnell, gleichmäßig und ohne Anhaften.

    Ho completamente rinnovato le padelle di casa mia.
    Me ne mancava una in pietra (dopo la ceramica ed il titanio) e questa di Ozeri è davvero stata un'ottima scelta.
    Perfetta antiaderenza per un articolo molto attento alle problematiche delle sostanze tossiche, possibili con alcune padelle di altro genere.
    Volevo un articolo in pietra atossico di qualità e penso di aver raggiunto tale obiettivo : anche la cottura risulta perfetta e, come indica anche il produttore, la conducibilità termica è davvero ottima (come da indicazioni ho tenuto una fiamma piuttosto bassa ottenendo ottimi risultati), Facilissima da pulire : i residui di cibo "scivolano via" che è una meraviglia !
    Molto gentile il produttore che via mail anticipa alcuni accorgimenti; a questo si aggiunge un libretto di istruzioni (anche in Italiano) per usare al meglio la padella. Come non bastasse la padella viene fornita anche con un panno, apribile a ventaglio,per proteggere la padella da eventuali urti con altre padelle e pentole. 5 stelle e consigliatissimo.
