Best in Show meets You’ve Got Mail in this enemies-to-lovers romcom following a woman ready to do whatever it takes to save her grandpa’s shop—even if that means training a wild pup for a dog show alongside her greatest rival.

Aspiring fashion designer Cora Lewis should have known better. Entering her grandpa’s extremely adorable—and totally unruly—pups in a dog show? What was she thinking? Oh, right. Her grandpa is injured, his beloved pet shop is losing the fight against the upscale dog boutique across the street, and his business and home are on the line. She needs that prize money to save the day—and if the only way to win is to train with her strongest adversary, then she’ll suck it up and ask for help.

Rival store owner Leo Salinger is everything Cora is not: successful, wealthy, and overly ambitious. She would never guess that he is also the kind and witty pen pal she's met on a local message board. But somewhere between teaching pups to heel, fetch, and stay, Cora and Leo are finding a little competition can ignite a serious attraction. Can they stop this sexy spark . . . before all her dreams go to the dogs?

Thank you to NetGalley and Grant Central Publishing for this advanced reader copy. The opinions expressed are mine alone.

Round up to 3.5 out of 5 stars. "Worst in Show" by Anna E. Collins is a rivals to lovers / slow burn story with the added bonus of lots of doggy hijinks. While it did take a bit for me to get into the story I was eventually drawn in. I enjoyed seeing how the relationship between Cora and Leo evolved. I could relate to qualities of both characters. I also liked the quirky group of dogs that play a big role in moving the story forward. In terms of the actual writing, in general I thought it was fine. There were a few instances of spice that I wasn't expecting and was a little off-putting. I felt like it would go from a PG rating to PG-13 type rating without any warning. The spice wasn't even that intense; I just didn't expect it. Overall, I think this would be a good read for dog loving readers who want a story of rivals turned lovers.

Thank you to Forever for the advanced copy. All thoughts are my own!

This was a quick and easy enemies-to-lovers romance that I recommend if you’re a dog lover like myself. Worst in Show follows aspiring fashion designer Cora as she helps her grandfather with his struggling pet supply store. Things go from bad to worse when a rival store opens up directly across the street and her grandfather ends up with a bad hip injury requiring surgery. In need of a quick infusion of cash, Cora decides to enter one of her grandfather’s dogs into the local pet show. Imagine her surprise when the rival store owner Leo offers to help her along the way.

I thought this was fine. I was in need of something light and fun and I felt this filled that need for me. I’m not sure if the secret pen pal friendship they had online was needed but it didn’t necessarily take away from the story either. Cora was a bit tough to like at times, but I recognized that she was under a lot of stress and Leo wasn’t very helpful about it all. I loved all three of her dogs and their personalities.

I would say this was a solid 3.5 stars. Overall, a fun and low stakes read, definitely a great palette cleanser after reading some heavier things.

From the first exchange, I was pretty sure AlCaponesGhost25 was going to get together with SingerQueen and being a former Singer Sewing Machine owner myself, I was rooting for her from the starting gate. But the romp to get together is fraught with hilarious moments, relatable angst and poignant moments, especially between a grandfather and his beloved granddaughter. Throw in three oversized doggie personalities, a best hairdresser friend and an unlikely spy on the dogstore competition and Collins serves up an intelligent Rom-Com not unlike an Emily Henry narrative - and that's a good thing! Looking for a good escape this weekend - highly recomment Worst in Show!

    2.5 Stars.

    🐩 The vibes:
    - Enemies
    - Pranks
    - Dogs

    🐕 My thoughts:
This book has themes of You’ve Got Mail- in that there are rival pet shops across the street from eachother (one being a local shop and the other being a franchise boutique). There’s also an element of an anonymous chat room between the lead characters which felt like a wink to You’ve Got Mail.

Let’s start with the good. I liked the dogs. I liked the grandpa. I liked the set up of the rival shops.

Unfortunately there was a lot going on in this story that I just couldn’t connect with.

This couple felt quite toxic to me. I didn’t like them together. The jealousy. The little digs. The fights. The way that they take shots at eachother any chance they can but then instead of communicating- they turn to the physical connection of their relationship instead of talking about it.

I found Cora especially difficult and frankly just unlikable. I felt like she was the role of “mean girl” to Leo so many times. She beats him down time and time again and then he is the one who is apologizing- which left me even more confused. Unfortunately I didn’t see any growth in her character.

Cora’s parents were a hot mess; the dog show training felt a bit forced for me; and overall- I wasn’t invested in any of the plotlines.

My main question here is regarding the dog Cap. Is he ok? It sounded like he was having seizures but it wasn’t fully explained what was going on.
