A Summer Seduction (Legend of St. Dwynwen Book 2) Kindle Edition
No one in tiny Chesley knows the truth about Damaris Howard; a woman of wealth and beauty, she rarely allows anyone to get close. Her past was marked by scandal and abandonment—better to stay aloof and reinvent herself.
Then Damaris meets Alec Stafford, the Earl of Rowden. The tall, handsome border lord is a man of quiet but deep passion, raised to show no weakness and burned once before by a woman’s love. But when he and Damaris cross paths inside London society, they set sparks of attraction blazing—and rumors flying.
And when someone abducts Damaris from the city streets, Alec must stake more than his reputation to rescue her. Finding out who’s behind a dangerous plot plunges Alec and Damaris together in an intimacy that melts their well-guarded reserve, proving that true love’s rich rewards may just be worth the risks.

About the author

Candace Camp is the NY Times best-selling author of over 70 novels, including A Momentary Marriage and the popular Mad Moreland series (which now encompasses a not-so-small portion of that 70). Candace wrote her first novel while in law school. The experience taught her two things: 1. She can write even surrounded by towers of textbooks tall enough to crush her to death if there were an earthquake. 2. The only kind of tort she has any interest in is the kind that comes after the word chocolate and has an E on the end. So after Candace sold her first book, she happily gave up lawyer-ing to pursue her lifelong dream of writing. She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Pete Hopcus. Her daughter is author Anastasia Hopcus.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2019A great second book in this series. We meet Mrs. Damaris Howard and Alec, Lord Rawdon, in the first book. Alec is icy cold like a glacier, but that only hides the deep love and hurt he experienced the previous year when his fiancee breaks their engagement and disappears. We discover the true story in the first book, but it has left Alec more aloof. Until he sees the beautiful Damaris at a London play. Damaris has her secret - she is the illegitimate daughter of a peer and her mother was an actress. The real love her parents had for each other crumpled when his family forces a suitable match. At 8 years old, Damaris loses the father she loves - but he provides for her and her mother even after his death. A widow for 11 years, she has guarded her secret and her heart. After being kidnapped outside her London house, she is able to escape and runs to Alec for help. Together they evade her kidnappers time and again until they reach his castle. It was an exciting mystery as to why anyone would want to abduct Damaris. But Damaris is aware after telling her story to Alec that he can never marry her. And she refuses to be a mistress like her mother. But true love between these two beat all odds when each is willing to sacrifice for the other. Very enjoyable!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2019A great read with intrigue, romance, and adventure. I enjoyed the plotting but there's a difference between romance and sex. I felt like the story would have been better with more intrigue. I loved the characters and read all three books in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2024Camp is a fabulous author. I’m enjoying this series immensely. I will read the final novel at some point since I really liked Myles in this series but the FMC annoys me greatly.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2013I stumbled upon the author and book while on vacation in June and discovered another jewel in my list of new authors. This was the second book in a trilogy series of the Legend of St. Dwynwen. I found the characters enjoyable and mysterious, especially Damaris. This had a nice spin on it because I had picked someone else as the possible villain, I found myself more than entertained and could not wait to go on and order the other two books in the trilogy from Amazon. You will not be disappointed and will follow their adventures with anticipation.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2013I kind of get tired of these stories where the female lead is always getting abducted for some ridiculous reason or another. Like really, were abduction of society women really that common during that time? Anyway, here we go again. Damaris and Alec know each other and are drawn to one another but are very wary because of their pasts. They end up being thrown together because of, guess what? Yes, her abduction, which of course causes him to jump into action as her rescuer. Their relationship after that was actually pretty nice to read. However, then the book just dragged on. They must have taken a month to cross the length and breadth of England to get back to safety. This book was way too long for the story told. Still, it was a pretty decent read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2012I'm not sure why other readers are already bashing this novel. I'm not sure what they were expecting. I've read pretty much all of Candace Camp and I can't see why they find fault with this latest edition.
I always feel like Camp has a way of making the reader like the hero and heroine. And this novel is no exception. I liked both Alec and Damaris. The only issue I had was, what made Alec decide to pursue Damaris? He seemed to be on the fence, but then jumped right into it. Either way, I still loved their chemistry.
Though I am a little worried about the next novel in the series, involving Alec's sister. She is not a likable character, so I hope Camp can change my mind.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2012Most Historical or Regency Romance novels are about young debutantes and the reformation of a rake. This novel is the 3rd in a series and features a heartbroken hero, who has lost a fiance` in death and a youngish widow that had a less than ideal marriage. Both hero and heroine are good people who are attracted to each other, but know that that is not all there is to romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2017The second book in this series was well written and brought two characters together that were featured in the first book. Loved Damaris and Alec and their romance. Looking forward to the last of the series.

Brilliant book - as all I have read by this author. Cannot wait for the last one in the series

3.0 out of 5 stars the book is better than the cover
The lady apparently tumbling down the cover tends to make you think you have the book upside down! However having read the first story I was keen to uncover the mystery of Damaris who was obviously a lady with secrets. The book did not quite live up to the promise and I found the character of both hero and heroine rather changed and changeable after their introduction in A Winter Scandal, and a tad unlikely at times.Still the ending was very satisfying and I am looking forward to the last of the trilogy.
