Cruel Winter with You (Under the Mistletoe collection) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 50,148 ratings

For two former childhood friends, a blustery winter storm stirs some frosty—and scorching—memories in a delightfully sexy short story by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood.

All newly minted pediatrician Jamie Malek wants is to borrow a roasting pan for Christmas dinner. Unfortunately, that requires her to interact with Marc—her best friend’s troublemaking brother, who’s now a tech billionaire. He’s the one who got away. She’s the one who broke his heart. Outside, a howling blizzard. Inside, a crackling fire. Suddenly, being snowbound with the man she never expected to see again might not be such a bad way to spend a winter’s night.

Ali Hazelwood’s Cruel Winter with You is part of Under the Mistletoe, a collection of sexy December romances to warm the cold winter nights. They can be read or listened to in one swoony sitting.

⭐️: 5/5🌶️: 0You may enjoy this if you like:❤️ Novellas❤️ Coming of Age love story❤️ BFF’s Brother❤️ HEACruel Winter With You is the first novella of the Under the Mistletoe Collection. It was the perfect quick read for me to finish in one sitting while it was raining (que hoa hoa hoaa hoa music). In this short story, Jamie and Marc find themselves stuck together in a snowstorm. They are childhood friends, sorta. Jamie is BFF with Marc’s older sister and he had a huge crush on her for forever… until she broke his heart a few months prior to the snowstorm. For a novella, the author did a fabulous job pulling me in and being invested in these characters past, present and future. I just loved how devoted Marc was to Jamie over the years and even though it took her way too long to see it, I was so happy they get their happy ending. There isn’t any open or closed door romance type scenes, but I still loved this short story so much I am giving it a 5 star rating. I feel like it could be expanded to a full length novel, and give us the open door scenes, please…. 😘

Under the Mistletoe is a collection of five Amazon-Original holiday-themed stories published this month, penned by well-known authors in the romance genre. Cruel Winter With You by Ali Hazelwood is novella 1/5.

Jamie Malek has always shared a love/hate relationship with her best friend’s younger brother, Marc Compton, and the last time they saw each they did not part on good terms. So, when a snowstorm leaves them stranded together on Christmas Eve, old resentments flare, and sparks fly. Can Jamie and Marc resolve their differences this Christmas?

Cruel Winter With You was my first book by Ali Hazelwood and I was really impressed by her writing and can’t wait to read more by her. This one was a sexy open-door romance but tastefully done. I loved that thorough backstories were provided for the characters relationship given the short length of the story. Maybe Marc was kind of obsessed with Jamie, dropped too many f-bombs for my taste, and did the author really have to make him a billionaire? But it was supposed to be a Christmas fantasy, so I’m not too bothered it wasn’t entirely realistic.

Fans of Ali Hazelwood will not be disappointed by this true-to-the-author romance. Once again we have a hero completely gone for our heroine, but this is also a romance about two people who have known each other virtually their entire lives. A good part of the story actually happens in the past, and it’s a delicious build-up to a heated, heartfelt conclusion. Hazelwood fans will be pleased with this Christmas-themed gem, and those who haven’t read her books would find a nice little example of the tropes and characterization that Hazelwood likes to employ. A quick, fun read.

Cruel Winter With You was a short but sweet read that worked well as a palette cleanser. The story had some enjoyable moments, particularly the MMC’s cinnamon roll vibe, which added warmth and charm. However, the miscommunication trope played a big role, and since I’m not a fan of that, it felt a bit frustrating.

The pacing felt rushed, and I wish the FMC’s self-doubt had been explored more—her struggles didn’t feel entirely justified or well-developed. A little more depth would have made her journey more compelling. Despite these issues, it was a quick, cozy read with some cute moments, but not a standout for me.

I enjoyed this short Christmas time story. They've known each other since they were young children. Now they're all grown up. It's Christmas time and Marc finds Jaime at his door.

Ali writes women being extremely intelligent but slightly challenged when it comes to relationships. I like how she plays out the story, and never fails to pull me in from the start.

I’m definitely adding Ali Hazelwood to my list of cozy/ comfort authors. I can’t explain exactly what I loved about she told this love story but I loved how down to earth it was. Apart from the fact that the mmc was a tech billionaire ( which honestly he didn’t need to be ) it was such a lovely love story. One beautiful thing the relationship between the mc’s is their journey to discovering their feelings for each other. I loved the moments in time where the mmc explicitly told her how he felt. His big love declaration was so sweet. I loved how he let her know that he knew her flaws and all and loved every part of her.

I was excited about this collection as soon as I heard about it. I will say that I was worried about if I would like this one because I've only read one full length book an by Ali Hazelwood and 3 novellas, and I didn't love any of them. I will say that while I still didn't love this one, I liked it. I personally think that if it was full length I would have loved it. I loved that it wasn't instalusty or lovey because the MC's had know each other their whole lives, I really liked how well the backstory was told, and I love that it was a snowed in plot. I did read these in the order Amazon had them in, and I think this was a great starter to the series.

This was a nice sweet story. I liked Marc and Jamie. I liked that the author started the story from the beginning of their life, together.
Marc was very persistent. He loved Jamie and nothing would stand in his way of having her fall in love, with him.
    A very fast read.

This was a really quick but cute read from Ali Hazelwood. I was impressed with how much story was compressed into this and thought that the use of the past and the main character’s memories were a good way to get backstory and feel like the story was continuously moving. Would definitely recommend!

I loved this novella. It was sweet and festive and has all the ingredients of a good hallmark romance: childhood sweethearts, elements of forbidden love, he falls first, best friend’s brother…

For such a short read, literally no more than an hour from cover to cover, the chemistry between Jamie and Marc was strong. You could clearly see the back story for both individual characters and whilst there are elements I wish would be more fleshed out and detailed, like in Hazelwood’s larger books, it was sufficiently detailed for a short festive novella.

I will say, this absolutely feels like one of Hazelwood’s tamer stories, with only one spicy, open-door scene, but other than wanting more of the characters, this had all the parts of Hazelwood’s writing we know and adore.
