Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- The paintjob worn by the Sentinel guarding Tassyn is likely from Antium because there is a crown-shaped decal on the helmet. Also, similar designs can be found in The Art of Anthem book.
- The lapel worn by Tassyn on her red jacket has the same design as that of the default decal of Interceptor, which is the logo of Corvus.
- The helmet from the Freelancer’s old javelin, worn only during Early Warnings is never seen again, even though it is their property. The helmet called Ranger MK2 Helmet.
- The rusty old javelin is also never seen again.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Welcome to Fort Tarsis (Mission):
Briefing
Fort Tarsis is a small walled city, bustling with life. It has a market right next to the Forge where the Freelancer’s rusty old Ranger will be serviced after the recent mission.
At this point, there is a Character Creation tutorial. There is an option to choose from 21 faces for the male or female Freelancer each. This face can show up during future cut scenes or match-making animation, only if the default javelin helmet for Ranger, Storm, and Interceptor, or default torso for Colossus is equipped.
The Freelancer comes out of their javelin in the Forge.
- Freelancer: "Here we are. Back in Fort Tarsis. The last stop on the Bastion frontier."
The Freelancer notices a strider about to halt.
- Zoe: "If it isn’t my favorite freelancer. I hear you’ve been busy."
- Freelancer: "You know how it is, Zoe. Another day, another disaster averted."
The Freelancer looks at Zoe, a mechanic at the Forge.
- Zoe: "What have you done this time?"
- Freelancer: "Nothing! My armor’s fine. Probably. I hope."
Meeting Owen
The Freelancer receives a message in their communication link.
- Owen (through the comms channel): "Welcome home. You should swing by my amplifier in the enclave."
- Freelancer: "Something wrong?"
- Owen: "No, no. Not wrong. More like… fun. Drop on by whenever."
Find Owen in the Freelancer Enclave
The Freelancer goes to the Enclave.
Briefing Gallery
In Expedition
Owen is taking a look at the Cypher Amplifier Chair. A Cypher is seated on it, speaking with Owen who is probably trying to repair it.
- Owen: "Yep, you see what I mean? You picked up on that, right? Little warble? It’s warbling. Right?"
- Cypher: "All readings fall within acceptable tolerance."
- Owen: "You’ve gotta look past the numbers for once in your life. Something is off. The connection is a bit… fuzzy."
- Cypher: "How do you quantify “fuzzy”?"
- Owen: "You don’t quantify fuzzy! You don’t measure it, you don’t count it… it’s nothing like that. It’s a feeling."
- Freelancer: "Everything okay here, Owen?"
- Owen: "Yeah, well on your last mission, I noticed that the cypher chair was giving off some very strange feedback."
The seated Cypher gets off her chair.
- Cypher: "All readings fall within acceptable tolerances."
- Owen (to the Cypher): "Hey, it’s your call. But if you ignore it and something goes wrong…"
Owen makes a neck slicing off gesture using his palm.
- Cypher: "(Sighs.) I will find an Arcanist and perform a full protocol inspection on this unit."
Owen gives the Cypher a double thumbs up with a goofy grin. As the Cypher walks away, Owen salutes her behind her back, mockingly.
- Freelancer: "There’s nothing wrong with that chair, is there? "
Owen goofily looks at the Freelancer, keeping his grin.
- Owen: "No."
- Freelancer: "Why are you always stirring up trouble?"
- Owen: "What are you talking about? I’ve just done her a massive favor. You’ve got no idea how boring it is being a fort cypher. She does not get to work with a freelancer. She does not get to see the world through the eyes of a javelin pilot. No, no, no, no, no. You know what she gets to do? She gets to relay official messages back and forth to the cyphers at the capital. Day after day after day."
- Freelancer: "Some people like boring. Not everyone’s cut out to be a Freelancer."
- Owen: "So you have said. But you have to admit, that last mission would have gone better with a partner."
- Freelancer: "I have a partner. You. Every good javelin pilot needs a cypher."
- Owen: "That is not what I meant. Look, if I had a suit of my own. I could be out there in the field with you!"
- Freelancer: "Dial down your boosters, hot shot. With more training, you’ll get your chance. I promise."
- Owen: "Fine. It’s not like we can afford a spare suit anyway. The job board is empty."
- Freelancer: "We’ll figure something out. We always do."
- Owen: "Ehh… do you ever regret missing out on the glory days? Back when the Freelancers were treated like heroes? Contracts would just fall into their laps everywhere they went, they were given respect and free sandwiches."
- Freelancer: "Free sandwiches?"
- Owen: "Yeah, I haven’t had my lunch yet. I’m starving. We’re on a tight budget here."
- Freelancer: "The budget has room for sandwiches."
- Owen: "You’re probably right. You know what, why don’t you head over to the Forge… Get your javelin tuned up so we’re ready to roll if a contract does fall into our laps."
Owen smiles and gives the Freelancer a double thumbs up as they walk away.
Getting to Know the Forge
The Freelancer must return to the Fort’s main forge.
Head Back to Your Javelin
The Freelancer returns to their rusty old Javelin in the Forge. When they take a look at the Javelin, Owen shows up from behind them.
- Freelancer: "Owen? You need something?"
- Owen: "What are you talking about? I Just got a message from you saying to meet you at the Forge."
- Freelancer: "I didn’t send any… why… would I want to meet up here? Something’s not right…"
A woman speaks up from behind the Freelancer. Both the Freelancer and Owen look at her.
- Tassyn: "We need to speak in private. My name is Tassyn."
Tassyn stands beside a Sentinel in a javelin painted differently from the rest of the fort sentinels.
- Owen: "Do you always travel with a security escort?"
- Tassyn: "Not always. But Sentinels have their uses."
- Owen: "Well, you make a hell of an entrance—I’ll give you that."
- Tassyn: "I have a contract for you, Freelancer."
- Freelancer: "I like to know who I’m working for before I take a job."
- Tassyn: "Really? (Laughs.) From what I hear, the two of you will take about any job you can get these days."
She looks at the Sentinel and then at the rusty old javelin that the Freelancer uses. Owen follows Tassyn as she examines the javelin.
- Owen: "What’s the job?"
- Tassyn: "An Arcanist has gone missing."
- Owen: "Missing? I thought Arcanists just hung out in labs studying Shaper relics. (Laughs.)"
- Tassyn: "Matthias Sumner was investigating some relics at a ruin near the fort. I need you to find him and bring him back home safe."
- Owen: "If he’s still alive."
Tassyn rolls her eyes at Owen’s comment.
- Tassyn: "No one knows more about the dangers of Shaper artifacts. I’m confident that knowledge—and his own resourcefulness—will keep him alive until you find him. What do you say, Freelancer? I’ll make it worth your while."
Tassys looks at the rusty javelin, hinting she would get the Freelancer a new suit. Owen ponders about a new javelin.
- Freelancer: "Owen… looks like the Freelancers ride again. Well, us anyway."
Owen walks past Tassyn and speaks with the Freelancer, and then thanks Tassyn.
- Owen: "Excuse me, I just gotta… that is excellent. I will run my diagnostics. Let me know when you’re ready to leave. It was a pleasure."
Tassyn walks away with the Sentinel.
- Tassyn: "On behalf of myself and Matthias, thank you for doing this."
The Freelancer tries to catch hold of Tassyn when the Sentinel stops them.
- Freelancer: "Uh, okay. And if I have… "
- Tassyn: "Find Matthias. Trust me. I’m a person you want to know."
Tassyn walks away with the Sentinel.
Post Expedition
Investigate the Forge and Unlock Your First Javelin
Forge is unlocked.
Tassyn has given the Freelancer new resources to replace the old Javelin.
The Freelancer access the Forge to find 1 new Javelin. They have a choice between a new Ranger, Colossus, Storm, and Interceptor.
The Freelancer can customize and use this new Javelin before or during missions by accessing the Forge, until new javelin classes are unlocked later.
Notes and Remarks
- The next mission begins immediately after selecting the javelin.
- In multiple playthroughs, if any javelin is unlocked at this point in time, there will not be an option to unlock additional javelins unless the next unlocking Pilot Level is reached.
- The dialogs in this expedition will always remain the same as mentioned in this script.
Note: The Expedition Maps feature is still a Work in Progress. Sometimes, a refreshing/reloading of this page may be required to zoom-in or zoom-out completely.
