Chef’s Plate, a food delivery service originating in Toronto, brings together farm-fresh ingredients and simple recipes to create delicious meals at home.
As they expand across Canada and into Ottawa, they offered Apartment613 a chance to try and then review their service. Never one to pass up some fresh, new recipes, I eagerly jumped at the opportunity.
The concept is straightforward. Each week, you check their online menu, place your order, and receive your delivery box. You can order from the two-person menu or the family plan. Ingredients come conveniently packaged per meal and everything is included. The recipes range in difficulty but all come with an easy-to-follow recipe card.
I tried the Nori Butter Salmon as well as the Asiago, Tomate and Zucchini Bake. Both from the two-person menu, the recipes were easy to follow and quite flavourful. The portions were generous and as I was cooking for one, I had leftovers for lunches that week. I’ve even reused my recipe cards and made the dishes again.
Overall, Chef’s Plate is a convenient way to get fresh ingredients and new recipes into your kitchen. Plans range in price but the great thing is you can skip a delivery or pause your account if you’re going to be away or have other meal options lined up. If you’re someone whose busy schedule keeps them from the grocery store, then this is a nice way to get cooking in your own space. As ordering is done on a weekly basis, it takes some forethought and planning but is a tasty, healthy and convenient alternative to take out.
Chef’s Plate is just one of many meal delivery services popping up, but with creative, easy recipes, they’re worth a try. If you’re new to cooking for yourself, this is a great way to gain some confidence. If you’re someone who likes to play around in the kitchen, they provide a good base for your culinary creations.
