ktvu's alyssa harington updates the search for the suspect. >> officers with the california highway patrol do not believe these recent shootings are related. the most recent incident happened last night just after 10:00 when chp officers received multiple calls for shots fired. >> we responded to close calls locating this vehicle. it was in the center median, there was a solo male driver a sole occupant in the vehicle seated in the driver's seat and he was unresponsive. several injuries that appeared to be gunshot wounds. >> the victim was shot multiple times in his upper body. the car was found near the center divider. it's unknown where the shooting happened or how long the driver continued after he was injured. he was pronounced dead at the scene. the man appears to be around 30

ship trial. we'll have the latest from today's hearing for you today at 4:00. you'll find henry's blog from the courtroom any time at ktvu.com. we are warming up nicely on this tuesday afternoon. things will heat up quite a bit. we're staying cool around the bay and along the coast. you can start by taking a look at your weather headlines. inland we're expecting conditions to be warm to hot, mid 80s to 90s. it is sunny inland. around the bay and along the coast it is cooler. it's a little bit warmer in some areas and we are seeing some clouds still especially along the coast. right now forecasted highs for the day. it's not as hot as it's going to get. santa rosa will get to 83 degrees today. normal for this time of year about 82 degrees. so slightly above normal for this time of year. san francisco nice, 70 degrees. normal for this time of year is about 67 degrees. oakland will heat up to 74

degrees. livermore 88 degrees and san jose 84 degrees. all of these highs we're expecting today just slightly above average for this time of year. we are currently in a heat advisory right now for lake county and some parts of the sacramento valley. the two cities that i want to talk about vacaville expected to get to 95 degrees today. clear lake going to get to 98 degrees. if you're in those areas, if you know anyone in those areas just be aware it's going to be pretty hot there. so a bigger look at your forecasted highs like i said. clear lake the hottest area on this map. 98 degrees. petaluma and santa rosa will get to 88. san rafael 79. vallejo 77 degrees. brentwood 95 degrees is where we're expected to land today. 90 degrees expected in walnut creek. so it will be nice in oakland and in berkley as well.

full forecast coming up in 15 minutes. now to union city where two people are recovering after an explosion inside a home on elizabeth way not far from pioneer elementary school. 5 people were inside the house when the explosion happened. one man has serious burns and is being treated today. neighbors say they had no idea what happened when first heard the blast. >> we heard a big explosion and it shook the house and we thought it was a car that crashed into a house or another car or something and we came outside and somebody came running out of the house yelling it's bad, it's bad, call 911. >> the woman said the shaking felt like an earthquake. investigators now say there were two large canisters of butane inside the house that may be exposed to a pilot light or some other type of flame. inspectors will be at the house

news. federal forecasters say this year's wild fire season could be even worse than last year. experts say it's hard to imagine things getting worse than last year when dozens of people were killed and billions of dollars in damage was done by several fires. two of the worst fires were the campfire and the mendecino complex fire. experts say the fire season could last well into october. preparations for the wild fire season are ramping up across california. and san mateo county yesterday. they were going through basic training of radio procedures and learning how weather plays a very big part in how quickly a fire can grow. cal fire says it has new strategies and equipment as it is facing the fire season. >> we have new helicopters coming into service that have the ability to fly at. we have a large air tanker program coming online which is the c130 aircraft which are something that we've never had

before. so we're kind of attacking this problem from all angles. >> cal fire says an aircraft is no more than 20 minutes away from any acre in california. there's also a red flag warning. it now means when the fire starts it will be catastrophic. people living in parts of california will soon start seeing television ads asking them to do their parts to protect their homes against wild fires. >> by being prepared you can solve an emergency before it begins. >> the new commercials are being paid for by the union that represents state firefighters. they claim the state hired enough firefighters in its most recent budget. they're asking property owners to help do their part in reducing the risk. >> we want them to take some time to be fire vigilant so we're not out there for long hours and days. >> the union may start airing more aggressive attacking governor newsome's budget. the new budget calls for 131 new

firefighter positions. 13 additional engines, new air tankers, helicopters, and dozers. no response yet. firefighters are busy in contra costa county preparing for what would happen with illegal fireworks. it was designed to train firefighters for what could happen if illegal fireworks were to start a grass fire. all fireworks are illegal in contra costa county. the fire threat is very high this year because of the dry conditions. >> with the extra rain we had in the spring and given the lighter fuels and the underbrush, additional moisture, i think we should anticipate that we're going to have probably more fire season than we had last year. >> homeowners have until june 30th.

east bay regional park district is warning visitors after two drownings last week. near livermore in a boating accident on june 8th. then on june 11th, '23-year-old sean spikes jr. drowned in the same lake after falling from a boat. park officials are reminding people to keep a close eye on their children and they advise all park guests not to drink alcohol if they plan to swim or boat. they also say only swim in areas where a life guard is on duty. safety may be on the minds of many parents now that the weather is warming up. drowning is the leading cause of injury-related death among children under the age of 5. swim instructors say drowning doesn't happen the way most of us think it does. >> when children go to the pool or swim in the ocean, there's a lot of noise. so if it gets quiet. >> drowning is a silent killer that can happen in 20 to 60 seconds. can happen 10' away from a

another beach goer was attacked by a shark off the coast of north carolina. this time it was an 8-year-old boy swimming off bald island. he was bitten on the leg and has a non life threatening injury. this is the third attack in north carolina since the start of june. a humpback whale had spent the last couple of weeks swimming in waters near the old alameda air base may have found its way back to the pacific ocean. it quickly became an attraction for spectators. experts say the whale was underweight and lacked ashooen. humpbacks are completing their migration from mexico to alaska this year. she may have returned to the golden gate to resume that journey. we're still following developing news out of japan. what we're learning about a powerful earthquake this morning one day after a deadly earthquake in china. >> also warmer weather is still expected across the bay area

we continue to follow developing news in japan. a powerful earthquake hit northwestern japan triggering a 2-hour tsunami warning. it's about 30 miles southwest from the city of sakata. at least 12 people are dead and 135 others are dead after an earthquake rescue teams are still searching for survivors and surveying the damage. more than 4400 people have been evacuated after 73 homes collapsed. the epicenter was just 10 belowell. boeing got a much-needed vote of confidence and announced

an order for the troubled 737 max jets. the company may be announcing today that the international airline group signed a letter of intent for the 200 boeing 737 aircraft. this is the first sale of the jets since the crash of the either ethiopiaian airline. another max jet crashed in september of last year. if the deal is approved, the planes would be delivered between (2) 023-2027 to airlines owned by the parent company of british airways. we have a little bit of something for everyone today in our bay area forecast. anywhere ranging from the mid 60s to the 90s. we can start by taking a look at a quick summary of the date. really mostly sunny for our inland locations. we will see some cloud cover continuing along the coast and around the bay. but warmer today than yesterday. about 3 to 5 degrees warmer than
