2月から続いていた反政府デモへの弾圧を進めるバーレーン政府は2日、政権に批判的な日刊紙アルワサトを発禁処分にした。国営企業や大学ではストライキやデモへの参加者の解雇も始まっており、政府はデモ側への「報復」姿勢をエスカレートさせている。 アルワサト関係者によると、政府は2日夜、処分を通知。同紙は3日付の新聞の発行を取りやめた。デモに関する「非倫理的な報道」で反政府感情をあおったことが理由だという。この関係者は「政府には独立した報道機関は不要だということだ」と憤った。 一方、別の地元紙によると、世界最大級のアルミニウム精錬所を持つ国営企業「アルミニウム・バーレーン」は、ストライキに参加したとして165人を解雇。バーレーン大学もデモに関与したとして教員5人、職員7人を解雇した。 ロイター通信が野党関係者の話として伝えたところによると、逮捕者も先月末時点で329人に上っている。(カイロ=五十
