Eat

Make the sign for eat by taking your dominant hand, forming a flat ASL letter O sign, and tapping your fingers to your mouth once. To sign food, make the same handshape but tap your fingers to your mouth twice. This universal sign for eating is the same sign used for food. The only difference is that verbs are signed once, and nouns are signed twice.

SIGN USAGE

Eat is one of the most common first signs. Make the sign whenever you offer food to your baby, when they eat, and just after they have finished. Your baby will be highly motivated to learn this sign, as they will quickly learn that using it enables them to get food whenever they are hungry. As your baby gets more advanced, start introducing the names of specific food items, so along with the general word eat, your baby can start using more specific words like jam, or blueberry.

I have a student that has trouble talking. I teach him how to use sign language because he has an ADHD and trouble talking. He is an eighth grade student, but I have my assistants help with him and teach him how to do Baby Sign Language because of the ADHD and trouble talking.

    ADMIN – Hi Christine,

Many educators use our resources beyond infancy.

I have 7yr old with ADHD, do you think it is too late to teach him how to sign?

    ADMIN – Hi Monique,

Kids and adults of all ages can learn how to use sign language. Our program is mainly designed for babies and it has simplified signs. You can certainly start using our flash cards and then if he catches up you can explore using an ASL program.

My daughter has spina bifida, she is 3 yrs old and only says a few words. She mostly moans and screams and cries for what she wants. I need a better and easier way to communicate with her.
