Four of the seven seats on the Richland County School District One school board were up for general election on November 8, 2016. Two seats were elected at large and two were elected by district. Six candidates filed for the open at-large seats: Darrell Black, Otha Dillihay, Avni Gupta-Kagan, Donna Mack, Mama Miller, and Lila Sauls. Sauls and Black won the seats. District 2 and 4 incumbents Jamie Devine and Cheryl Harris filed for additional terms on the board, and both secured the terms since they were unopposed. There was no primary.[1][2]

Funding
Gupta-Kagan reported $60,877.20 in contributions and $12,614.32 in expenditures to the South Carolina State Ethics Commission, leaving the campaign with $48,262.88 cash on hand as of October 28, 2016.[3]

Quarterly report: All candidates with contributions on hand were required to file this report. It was required of all candidates once they had begun to file, whether or not there was financial activity. The fourth quarter campaign finance report was due on October 10, 2016.
Final report: This was due after the campaign account was closed.
