Campaign themes

2014

McCray's campaign website listed the following issues:[4]

  • Jobs and the Economy: "As a former successful small businessman I believe that we need to focus on creating private sector jobs in order for true economic recovery to take place. I will work to amend, replace, or eliminate outdated or malfunctioning regulations which stifle the private sector’s ability to create jobs and grow the economy."
  • Energy and the Environment: "Californians are well aware of the “price at the pump” and as your Congressman I will work to lower gas prices. While it is important to seek out these short term solutions it is equally important that our nation continues to explore for alternative energy options such as biomass, coastal wind turbines, hydroelectric power, and nuclear."
  • Veterans: "We need to do right by the men and women who risk their lives serving in combat and ensure that all Veterans who serve Honorably receive the benefits that they rightfully deserve, without delay. I will work to eliminate the cumbersome paper work and long delays to benefits recipients."
  • Strong Defense: "As a retired military officer with sons in the military I know how disruptive war is. As your Congressman I will support legislation aimed at further decreasing our military presence in hostilities in the Middle East. I would also reevaluate the recipients of foreign aid and support legislation cutting U. S. foreign aid for counties who threaten our interests domestically or abroad."
  • Fixing Social Security: "I would make no changes for existing participants who are 55 or over, reform the system for younger workers just beginning to pay into social security and propose legislation to prevent using the Social Security Fund to finance other programs. "
