  2. Witchcraft
    by Capricorni Pneumatici
The title track hooked me on this album. It starts off bright and filled with wonder, then slowly, subtly, the sound twists and warps, evoking a steady descent into madness and/or ecstatic understanding. Each of the remaining tracks lovingly evokes a forbidden ritual that opens the mind to alternate realities with whirling, sweaty dances; thick, dripping blood; and undercurrents of sexual desire for the Other without and within.
  3. Hibernal
    by Witan
Shimmering, soothing, subtly evolving, with a healthy dose of wintry magic. Like watching a gentle snowfall limn the pines with frost, while a soft breeze puffs sparkling snowflakes aloft.
  4. Depopulation Protocol
    by Poena Sensus
Deep space industrial isolationist dark ambient with a fantastic storyline and gripping, empathetic cover art. Truly terrifying vision of an all too possible future. Consciousness is hard enough to learn to handle when you are born with it. But to have it added like a software upgrade in adulthood, with no one to explain it to you…now that’s true horror. (Would love to see this on CD, with the story included.)
  5. Sunset Sessions I, II
    by psychedelic source records
I get so much joy from listening to these jams, and we so badly need more joy in the world today. Thank you!
  6. Covenant of the Blackened Woodlands
    by Ithilrå
Raw blackness that nicely captures both the bleak bone-deep chilling isolation and the frosty exhilaration of walking through frozen woodlands in the deep darkness. Manages to sound frenzied without losing control, yet also subtly reflective. Great start for this project.

  11. Lightless Expanse
    by GLACIAL TOMB
Cosmic death done right. I feel the relentless pounding of photon-rays from beyond, but also periodically see breathtakingly beautiful interstellar phenomena revealed by the intricate guitar work. The end result both makes me want to look up into the heavens, yet also inspires a profounder terror-wonder at the shapeless abominations I may see drifting across this lightless expanse.

The higher the mountain, the greater the struggle to climb it, and the more heartbreaking it is to fall back down over and over and over again, till even your soul is bloody and bruised. (Visions like that one from listening to this EP make me realize just how much I miss this project....)
  17. La Dimension Inconnue (LP)
    by Royaume des Brumes
Some of the purest and most enjoyable old school dungeon synth I’ve heard in a long time. I love how bright and sprightly the music is, resonating with a sense of breathless wonder and epic adventure. The melodies seem simple at first, but have a knack for getting under your skin and putting a smile on your face.

  20. (like) thieves in a glowing orchard
    by Morbærsanger
This release has a lovely hushed, almost reverent quality, like holding your breath in wonder as you watch the sunrise slowly brighten the sky, or feel a glorious blazing sunset deepen into purple twilight. I also get a sense of being suspended in time, like discovering ancient petroglyphs pecked into cliff walls while hiking, and simultaneously standing and look at them both now and when they were freshly made.
