    by David Piluso
    Refraction Refraction
David Piluso shows on this sterling debut the fluidity and technical acumen of fusion, the depth of progressive rock and a good dose of cinematic atmosphere that makes this much more than just another virtuoso guitar album. It’s an emotionally satisfying collection of tunes that you just keep thinking about. Fans of John Etheridge, Guthrie Govan and even Damnation-era Opeth assemble here.
  13. The World Inside Out

    Strike Strike
Like Inkipak's Slip album of last summer, this is ambient electronic music the way it should be-- expansive, wide-open sonic spaces you can almost live in. For me, it's the release of the year.

It’s hard to believe this is a compilation— the album sounds so good from start to finish. It energizes and soothes at the same time, without the moroseness inherent in much IDM. In fact, this music is quite optimistic, even in its more pensive moments, but still very nuanced. A perfect set of tracks.
  18. Coral Way
    by Alfredo Rodriguez
    Coral Way Coral Way
This is a very skillful blend of different Latin and pop styles with Alfredo’s usual and unique approach to jazz. Tricky but joyous cascading runs and sun-drenched melodies make the whole album a great vacation playlist choice. Even “Fur Elise” feels fresh once it really gets into it, despite having been interpreted by a host of performers. In view of the real quality here, and being one of Downbeat’s top choices for the year, I can’t understand why Coral Way doesn’t have more exposure!
  19. Live at Maida Vale BBC - Vol. II

I'm Already Gone (BBC Live Version) I'm Already Gone (BBC Live Version)
Great to hear these songs performed live-in-studio. You can really hear the energy in the performances. Also, the sound here has so much more punch than the Gold and Gray versions. The mix on that album is just tough… A powerful close in the “Tourniquet/Can Oscura” medley. But this version of “I’m Already Gone” is an absolute must-have.
  20. An Ever Changing View
    by Matthew Halsall
“His own sonic universe”, indeed! Certainly, this is jazz— real jazz— but it evolves the style into fresh, new territory. It feels refreshing and full of wide open spaces to breathe in. I’m particularly enjoying the harp passages, which seem even more beautifully incorporated than before. Matthew’s best album yet. Sorry, I just can’t pick a favorite track. This is just one great complete work.
