A Statement from robert harris, president of beam

As Buffalo Engineering Awareness for Minorities (BEAM) celebrates Black History Month, we recognize the impact that Black engineers, inventors, and scientists have had on shaping this new world of technology and innovation.  From the trailblazers like Granville T. Woods, whose electrical engineering patents revolutionized railway systems, to Dr. Aprille Ericson-Jackson, a pioneering space engineer at NASA, Black excellence has driven engineering breakthroughs that continue to inspire future generations.

BEAM’s programming is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where all students, regardless of background, have the opportunity to study and explore, innovate, and lead in STEM and engineering fields.  This month we encourage our students to learn from the resilience, creativity, and achievements of Black engineers who paved the way, and to carry forward their legacy through curiosity, perseverance, and excellence.

Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world
— Harriet Tubman
