The Kind Worth Killing: A Novel Kindle Edition
A devious tale of psychological suspense perfect for fans of Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train—and is soon to be a major movie directed by Agnieszka Holland.
In a tantalizing set-up reminiscent of Patricia Highsmith’s classic Strangers on a Train… On a night flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing very intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start—he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit—a contrast that once inflamed their passion, but has now become a cliché.
But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda for what she’s done. Lily, without missing a beat, says calmly, “I’d like to help.” After all, some people are the kind worth killing, like a lying, stinking, cheating spouse. . . .
Back in Boston, Ted and Lily’s twisted bond grows stronger as they begin to plot Miranda's demise. But there are a few things about Lily’s past that she hasn’t shared with Ted, namely her experience in the art and craft of murder, a journey that began in her very precocious youth.
Suddenly these co-conspirators are embroiled in a chilling game of cat-and-mouse, one they both cannot survive . . . with a shrewd and very determined detective on their tail.

Review
''Revenge has rarely been served colder than in Swanson's exceptional thriller…With scalpel-sharp prose, Swanson probes the nature of coldblooded evil. Few will be prepared for the crushing climax.'' --Publishers Weekly (starred review)
''The next Gone Girl?…There aren't just two unreliable narrators, there are four. There isn't just one enormous, game-changing twist. Try three…You'll also lose count of all the sociopaths…they're each deranged but oh so compelling.'' --Entertainment WeeklyBR>
''Filled with double-timers and double-crossers, cold-eyed stalkers and cold-blooded murderers, The Kind Worth Killing paints a riveting, disturbing picture of marriage gone horribly awry, with no shortage of startling surprises. If you're engaged to get married, by all means read something else.'' --Chris Pavone, New York Times bestselling author of The Expats
''Gripping, elegantly and stylishly written, and extremely hard to put down!'' --Sophie Hannah, New York Times bestselling author of The Monogram Murders
‘’ . . . This is a book that launches Peter Swanson straight into the ranks of the killer elite, alongside Tana French [and] Gillian Flynn. He's the real deal.'' --Joe Hill
''The Kind Worth Killing is not your ordinary murder mystery; it is an extraordinarily well-written tale of deceit and revenge told by a very gifted writer. Peter Swanson takes us on a harrowing journey through the hearts and minds of a cast of characters who seem normal on the outside but are deliciously abnormal on the inside. The twists are not just in the plot; they are also in the heads of the plotters.'' --Nelson DeMille
''Chilling and hypnotically suspenseful…Could be an instant classic.'' --Lee Child
From the Inside Flap
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning Lily Kintner. Over martinis, the strangers play a game in which they reveal intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his wife, Miranda--how their marriage has gone stale, how a week ago he caught her in a stunning betrayal. But what begins as playful banter between Ted and Lily takes a swift turn when Ted claims, half-seriously, that he would like to kill his wife. Then Lily surprises him by saying that she'd like to help.
Back in Boston, Ted and Lily forge an unusual bond and talk about the ways Ted can get out of his marriage. But Lily has her own dark history she's not sharing with Ted. And Ted is keeping something from Lily, too. But as Ted begins to fall in love with Lily, he grows anxious about any holes in their scheme that could give them away. And suddenly the two are pulled into a very lethal game of cat and mouse, one in which both are not likely to survive when all is said and done.--Publishers Weekly (starred review)From the Back Cover

- Reviewed in Canada on September 28, 2015Verified PurchaseTed meets Lily at an airport bar while waiting for their flight. They strike up a conversation about their lives and Ted confesses to this stranger that his wife, Miranda, is cheating on him with their contractor. Lily offers to help him get his revenge, by having her murdered. They devise a plan and set out to make it happen. As the story is told from different perspectives, we get to see how these characters have come to this point in their lives. It's a good page turner and we see how each person, with their own dark tendencies, try to one up each other.
I can see this book being made into a movie
- Reviewed in Canada on September 19, 2017Verified PurchaseFirst off I have to say, I accidentally ordered this book as the kindle version. The first day I wasn't very impressed, because I don't like reading on screens. After the second day, I was in love. Having it on my phone I was able to whip it out a read a few pages while waiting in line at the store, or at the doctor office.
About the book: I enjoyed it. There's a few twists that keep you wanting to read more. If I had to rate it I would give it 7/10, like most books it could have been better. Overall good book, easy to read.
- Reviewed in Canada on March 7, 2020Verified PurchaseThis book was a quick page turner for about the first half. Captivating and quick paced, and developing the plot through the perspective of shifting narrators, the story was entertaining. After about the half way mark though, I wanted the book to end: every character, without exception, was amoral, hedonistic and completely unlikeable. I was hoping that a sleuth with even a shred of grace would appear, but that opportunity was lost. I felt nothing but disgust for all events and people in the book, and a part of me longed for an apocalyptic event. If this was the intent of the author, he succeeded. Not much to interpret or analyse in this book, and I am not sure why anybody would include this on a book reading club list. A little bit of intrigue, but the novelty of the authors' approach soon evaporates. An okay book, but overall not recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zeug zum Klassiker

5.0 out of 5 stars Un des meilleurs thrillers de ma vie
