Matthew 22:41-46 - David's Son And Lord

⁴¹ While the Pharisees were still gathered, Jesus asked them, ⁴² "What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?" They told him, "David's."

⁴³ He asked them, "Then how can David by the Spirit call him "Lord' when he says,

⁴⁴ "The Lord told my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet."'?

⁴⁵ If David calls him "Lord', how can he be his son?" ⁴⁶ No one could answer him at all, and from that day on no one dared to ask him another question.

³⁵ While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he asked, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is David's son? ³⁶ David himself said by the Holy Spirit, "The Lord told my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet."'

³⁷ David himself calls him "Lord,' so how can he be his son?" And the large crowd kept listening to him with delight.

⁴¹ Then he asked them, "How can people say that the Messiah is David's son? ⁴² Because David himself in the book of Psalms says, "The Lord told my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, ⁴³ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'

⁴⁴ So David calls him "Lord.' Then how can he be his son?"
