And they heard the voice of the LORD God as he walked in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam hid himself and his wife also from the face of the LORD God, among the trees of the garden. And the LORD God called Adam and said unto him, "Where art thou?" And he answered, "Thy voice I heard in the garden, but I was afraid because I was naked, and therefore hid myself."
Then they said one to another, "We have verily sinned against our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he besought us, and would not hear him: therefore is this trouble come upon us." Reuben answered them, saying, "Said I not unto you that ye should not sin against the lad? But ye would not hear; And now verily see, his blood is required."
And Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which he said unto him, "Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice": and went out at the doors and wept bitterly.
When they heard this, they were pricked in their hearts, and said unto Peter, and unto the other apostles, "Ye men and brethren, what shall we do?"
Then said David unto Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said again to David, "The LORD hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
For I acknowledge my faults, and my sin is ever before me. Against thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight, that thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and clear when thou shalt judge.
Then I said, "O woe is me! For I am lost: inasmuch as I am a man of unclean lips, and dwell among people that hath unclean lips also. For mine eyes have seen the King and LORD of Hosts."
When Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus' knees saying, "Lord go from me, for I am a sinful man."
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?" And he said, "What art thou, Lord?" And the Lord said, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it shall be hard for thee to kick against the prick." And he, both trembling and astonished, said, "Lord what wilt thou have me to do?" And the Lord said unto him, "Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou shalt do."
I once lived without law: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I was dead.
